Hi Michael, hi everyone! I haven't been on the forum in ages, I hope everyone is well.

Thanks, yeah I'm enjoying the DIRT series and my form is just starting to pick up again after a big long dip after Xmas when I had covid and two bouts of flu in succession which really knocked me for six!

I have not used my wahoo tickr and batteries since buying my usb charging coospo hrm september 2019. Think of all those batteries I would have used.

Is it chest or wrist? I would definitely move to usb. I have a coospo and it works well except the battery's being dung and cr2032s don't get delivered to northern Ireland for some reason

What a day!!

We stayed at the Petwood the night before to enjoy the occasion of the 80th year of the 617 squadron daring raid in WW2.

Woke to find dry but cool morning, got ready, all excited to taking part. There were 5 of us, 3 young lads and me and Shaun

We set off and immediately the pace was fast. Within minutes we were passing the wave that left 8 mins before. Flying along, but working hard, possibly too much. Shaun and I were staying at the rear drafting along. Then came the first incident at mile 12 Shaun drifted a bit too close the edge of the road, got panic stare and in a flash was jack knifed off the bike, we all came to a screeching halt.

His pride dented, outfit ripped and bleeding elbow. The bike a lovely 1970 Reynolds 531 road bike. Smashed rear brake lever and derailleur control for the front. Bike dropped into small chain ring. Other problem the force of the crash had severely loosened his from brake on the frame. He insisted we left him, but not before we managed to get my daughter to rush and collect him/bike before her event started.

The young guns kept the pace going after the restart. First stop arrived 28 miles and I felt a bit cooked. Straight after the stop a short stabby climb where they just rode away. Mercifully they waited a mile or two down the road at a junction.

Pace kept going, by now we were a mile 37 and I told the lads to leave me because I was finding the surges difficult to get back onto.

Mile 40 boom, legs went pop and could hardly pedal with cramp.

I limped to second stop at mile 47 added lots of salt to my water and refuelled. Off I went, just managing the cramp with fluid and a easier pace, but not super slow.

Around mile 60 I found I couldn't change gear easily, there was a click from the drive, next chain jammed, so road side stop and untangle the chain. Mile 63 I went around a corner heard something/s fall from the bike, all of a sudden chain had jammed again. I stopped to find this had happened

Being a resourceful chap I cobbled a repair with cable ties.

Now being a triple crank and the two outer rings hanging together with cable ties, I decided to use the inner 22t chain ring. But the gearing only allowed me to get 8mph with spinning my legs off. I chanced my luck, and tried putting the chain onto the repaired middle 36t ring. Amazingly it worked riding up and down over the cable ties. I now could get 15-17mph soft pedalling.

Not wanting to push my luck and poor ride execution any further limped the remaining 12miles or do back to base. To be received with cheers as the first finisher:laugh:

I explained my reason for an early return, pleased with my mechanic skills, still gave a finish medallion for being a brave little soldier

I Go Pro'd the event so might have caught another coming off into a hedge

Off for my hog roast now-orry for long post

That's a lot of incidents. Love the cable tie repair.

Looking at another event now?
