Personally I think banning things should be banned.
I like the differences, and I like having a choice. But I've nothing against there being a race organiser option to prevent bike swaps - just like there is to enforce bike selection.
Love the variety in different sorts of Zwift races and really don't understand why people want to force their opinions on others.
(You should see the polarizing discussions about Cat Enforcement on the Zwift forums. Stalin would be shocked at the severity of some people's opinions.

What I dislike most about the Zwift GUI is that you can't search the workouts by name. If I want to do 40/20s, I need to go into whatsonzwift to find out that it's on the 4wk FTP Booster...

I like the bike changes - or at least the possiblity/choice of doing them and the tactical decision involved (in reality I think I've only ever chosen to do it once or twice in a race). It's just a shame that the process is so much slower if you use ATV rather than a PC (and some people even set up autohotkey so they can do the whole thing instantly with one press of a button) because that really disadvantages some users just because of the hardware they use.

I have to say, the most fun races that I did to date are indeed those where people are assigned the same bike and there are no powerups, would be great if organisers could assign wheels too. It takes randomness/luck & rider level out of the equation and contributes to the experience. So it's an example of how having less can give you more. It's a very valid opinion. And from all the sh*t-posting on FB in the WTRL section about SBP, there's obviously a lot of people out there who just want a "straight race". And I hope there will always be decent options available for that. I'm sure there will.
We're not all the same though and I quite like the gamification side of it. I think there are a lot of people in both camps and I don't see why it can't be "both, and" rather than "either, or". Although I enjoy ZRL, I find all the segment smashing really hard and sometimes I'd prefer a straight race. It's nice to have both available to choose from.
I managed 3 bike swaps with ATV in relatively slick fashion last night Tron - Grail - Canyon road bike - Grail. Managed each swap in about 10 seconds and the bike swap’s definitely helped me get back position and/or improve.
