Just an example how seriously people can take sport is soccer or ice-hockey (for example). Especially when kids play soccer or ice-hockey and parents are watching side of the field, their verbal language and behavior can be pretty unbelievable. That makes me think that sport is those cases more important to kids parents than their kids.

The last race I did on Zwift I wasted all pu just because they seem silly to me
It’s good that there are races without them and I can also see a place for races with them - but maybe go the whole hog and make it like Mario cart racing where the bloke at the back gets a rocket and the bloke at the front gets blown up - just make it a full blown game
Can’t see why people are so determined to win a pretend medal when not competing equally
But in a world where you can get a diploma for studying strictly come dancing then I am quite happy not understanding how others think - some seem to think you should get a medal , trinket , chalice just for competing
Is it our fault for being on Zwift ? Selective memory and all that but I had just as much fun getting flattened on bkool way back then

I think I'd be up for some of that. Loving the flying lap of Volcano circuit as an iTT, not quite so sure about stage 7 though :laugh:
I think they need to tweak their flyer though. 2nd-8th is 7 days, not 8. (with the first two events being on the same day).

Don't get me started on school sports! :stop::angry:

Oh OK then...

Similar story with my son at primary school when he was around your daughter's age - running/sports was the only thing he was really good at but sports day was basically designed to be non-competitive so he didn't even get a chance to be good at that - annoyed the hell out of me and still does!

I don't think young kids who don't like sport should be forced to compete and be humiliated or anything of course, but don't take away all real competitive sport completely. Funnily enough it's only sport they seem reluctant to reward success at - if you do better than everyone else in a maths test they're quite happy to call that student out in assembly/give out certificates etc (quite rightly). But if the only thing you're good at in primary school is running fast - forget it!

And now your son is very good at soccer, right?

Yeah he still has plenty of pace and he uses it on the football pitch to good affect ^_^. He's in his first year scholarship (like a football apprenticeship) at Bristol Rovers FC now

My wife's friend has 5 kids of which 4 are crazily sporty. One has a scholarship to USA university to play women's football (soccer). The other plays high level badminton, two play tennis traveling around Europe with private tutor for education.

Just hope they achieve somewhere near their ambitions

Imagine being the one that's not. Bit of a downer for all your siblings to be sporty
