If we keep the gaps as they satnd, and CCC never get caught at all - or don't look likely to get caught - the race becomes a bit boring really doesn't it?

No

(Only joking @bridgy - chop us down as much as you feel fair, we don't want any complaints when we do take the ultimate victory :okay:)

Hold on. You've set up gaps based on the 14.65 mile segment, but we're racing for approx 15.3 miles and yet you're now proposing to make the gaps SMALLER? :headshake:
I didn't really "set up" time gaps - I showed what they were for the segment (which, yes, is around a kilometere shorter than the meetup) and said we could just use those for simplicity, but invited comments for any amendments. And I think there's a good case for reducing thetime gap having considered those comments. This isn't an exact science, so there's a bit of guesswork going on here.

What's the worst that can happen? The faster riders make the catch with a km or 2 to go and we have a good old race for the line becuase the caught riders will latch onto the draft. I just think it's better to err on the side of this happening rather than one group of riders being more likely to ride on the front for the whole time with the chasers realising there's no chance of a catch. I don't think that will be very exciting.

The alternative is to do a standard race with no time delays, which would be less exciting as well for different reasons.

Same as the last Cyclechat HnH, where CCC get passed at halfway, and roll in over the line 5 minutes down and everyone else has logged of and gone to get a shower ;)
You mean this last Cyclechat HnH race, where the top 5 included riders from A, B & C groups, with a C rider in 5th, 5 seconds behind the winner?

I might add, that this race (where a Cat C rider came 5th, just 5 seconds behind the winner), was 50% further than tonight's and a 5 minute gap clearly worked fine, which suggets a gap of 4.15 on tonight's shorter course is still too big if anything. If the same number of seconds per kilometre was used for the time gap, it should actually be closer to 3 and a half minutes. Which, if I start to apply @<Tommy> 's suggestion of a 30 second penalty for every complaint could be a reality very soon :okay:

No, the race being alluded to was one of the ones done on the Figure 8 course back in May/June time. Back then we had a D group as well and in the first two races we finished 2nd and 1st (although that one was disputed because a B joined us accidentally and paced us round), so because of that we had our time gap slashed in the third race - unfairly in our minds, but weren't able to convince the rest of the group. We then basically got completely hammered in that race finishing 4th by a massive distance - we hadn't even reached the bottom of the KOM when the final team caught us.

If tonight we do get caught in the final 1-2km, then I'm okay with the gaps even though we haven't won (which is certainly what we'll be trying to do - don't doubt that for a second). It's more that I fear us getting caught at Tower Bridge or even earlier, because riding those last 7-8km knowing that all the other teams are already in front of you and you have nothing left to ride for, is just boring. Been there, done that.

I've seen that 5th place rider somewhere before... I think he's a ringer  @Ketty

OK so not the last HnH race then.

Have you got any suggestions for the time gap then? You just seem to be saying there was a race once where the time gaps were not in your team's favour (and a couple of others that were) - well, yeah that's happened to everyone at some point becuase there's so many variables.

I've explained my thinking behind the time gaps taking into account the segment times from the ZRL race, and now also taking into account the time gaps from our last race which worked pretty much perfectly and I can't see any reason to have a bigger gap than the one suggested. But if you want to suggest an actual time gap and your reasoning behind it I/we can take it into account....

Guys I’m going to repeat this one more time (promise). just Take it as a bit of fun. The time gaps are going to be 100% hit and miss. Either they favour you or they don’t. Do more than one race on the same course and they will improve.

Maybe you send your kids to a a school where they make sure everyone gets a medal even when they come last. That’s not the school I went to. Prepare to suffer and see where it takes you 👍👍
