So, if I'm reading this right there are points for that sprint for 1st past the line, and also for fastest time .... so, in theory you could pootle to that point and blast a fast time and get points even if you're last on the road?

I know it's unlikely to get a fastest time if riding solo, but if you're in a large 2nd or 3rd group you could still contest this sprint to get a fastest time.

Interesting.
Correct - but as you point out, quite a lot of it does depend on the size of the group you're in.

The event I did at the weekend where all the points were allocated on fastest sprint times, all of the top 10 places went either to riders who were in the group pushing hard at the front of the race, or people who were in the very large autobus group trailling round at the back at 1.5 w/kg (this was a C race remember) and only contesting the sprints. People like me who were mid-pack, riding at normal paces in groups of 5-10 riders didn't stand a chance of picking up any big points.

Also remember that fastest time points applies to the 23rd Street Climb as well. Chances are that the best time for this will probably be set on the first lap given that people will be wanting to force breakaways early on, but there is a chance that someone who got dropped early might fancy a dig on the second lap.

Ah cool - I'll carry the laptop into the garage as well then
It was running ok at the weekend if you're watching the Live data feed for the race

If you hold down the "power button" on your keyboard for about 5 seconds at the start of the race you get a power boost. Works best if you unplug your WiFi router too
I think that would be quite popular tonight.

I dropped myself for the opening race and put our big power guys in the team. I'm DS tonight, so disconnecting my laptop and WiFi would go down well with them!

Good luck tonight guys! Well, not too much luck, obviously, but I still love you all! :smooch:

I’d agree with your view on this Steve. In my experience the best way to win the fastest time over the segment is to drive through from mid bunch to get the benefit of the draft from others going all out too.

The pack usually does get split on this course on these early climbs so a good warm up is essential
