I’ve been busy for a few days, so only just catching up with recent posts.

First up, thanks for the invite to come back and ride for CC. It’s tempting, but the timing isn’t right for me right now. I’ve ended up as Team Captain for WTRL Wanderers and I’ve bought 3 other riders into WTRL from my road club, so I’m a little too involved with the team at this time.

I do actually miss riding with you guys, and I make a point of reading the write-ups and watching the videos when I can and I’m enjoying seeing how you’re doing. I always look out for your results on the WTRL website after each race. So, things may change, but for now I’ll be staying with WTRL.

We may yet stay in Division 1, we’re 17th out of 22 with 2 races to go. Whether that’s a really good idea for next season is another question. There were 23 A riders for other teams on the line for last week’s race and they’ll all be there for Harrogate on Tuesday, which will mean a massive arse-kicking for most of us in our team. We’ve already lost 2 of our squad for the rest of the season as they just weren’t enjoying giving it everything and still getting dumped out the back in the first few kms.

I’ve not enjoyed the kickings any more than they have. We rode really well as a team in the TTT last Tuesday, finishing in 40.17, yet still ended up in 20th place. That was hard to take! But I think for me, being part of the team and just hoping that we can do enough to stay up is what is driving me on. I’m only contributing a point for finishing in scratch races, but that’s still a point.

We all think that relegation for next season would make things a lot better for us. Our top rider would probably be on the podium most weeks rather than battling for a place between 20 and 30. And the rest of us would probably be in the group for a lot longer, with a hope of scoring some more points, especially if we could get the scoring extended from top 30 to top 60!

And as far as Harrogate Reverse goes, I can only agree with @bobinski xx(🤢🤮

We were short, so we brought in an A rider and a top B. Big mistake! Team was blown to pieces with 4 guys escaping down the road and the other 4 of us splattered all over Yorkshire. Unfortunately, I was first to go. 2 of us got slightly caught out on an early rise. We got back on, but I was having to hold 4.2-4.5W/kg for too long just to get back on. There was another gap that I closed down, but then on the first long climb, I had nothing left.

My own fault, as I’d raced the 2 previous nights. Tiredness, the course and the strength of our team were just too much and so my run of good form came to an early end. Still, I managed a rather nice 20km sightseeing ride, so not all bad! ^_^

I hope the rules are better defined next season. It’s just rubbing salt in the wounds that lee couldn’t race with us when you hear about teams stacked with A cat racers.

Just finished the 'Cycling Weekly Autumn Chase Series Cat. C' race.
On the Greatest London Flat course, a good size field in Cat C. and I managed to stay in the lead group of 25 riders until we reached the countryside, a small group got away on the climb but I managed to stay with the second group on the road, as usual I struggled coming out of the underground but hung on.... just !
Back into London and our group got caught by both the lead groups of the Cat B & A riders, our small group worked well for the last few kms and we finished together.

Looking at the results and I finished in 7th place on ZP, therefore collecting 9 points in the CW series... :okay:
Well pleased with my performance, average speed on the course was 42 km/h... My fastest Zwift race to date.

Might even get my name in 'The Comic' next week... !!!

That sounds like a good series!

We may yet stay in Division 1
Which time zone are you in @Del C ? Just wondering if (when) we seal promotion could we be racing you next season.
We have a 26 point lead over 2nd place, and 28 over 3rd. So if my maths is correct we could seal the league title by finishing in the top 5 on Tuesday. Thats a big ask though as the teams in 2nd to 5th are locked in a battle for that second promotion place so they’ll be going all out for it. Also as a team we haven’t hit heights in the scratch races and it’s been our TTT performances that have really defined our season.

I think they defined the rules ok.

I think the problems have mainly come from 2 areas.

First, is riders joining up for ZRL who haven't been racing much on Zwift over the last few months. One of the guys who rides in my road club who joined WTRL, joined as a B cat rider in just these circumstances. He was immediately upgraded to A after one TTT event. This didn't matter in his case because he joined one of our A cat teams, but think of that happening on a large scale in the B league and the effect is significant.

And this is the second point, where riders have joined as a B, unless WTRL think there's an obvious attempt at cheating, they've let riders continue at the cat they entered. It could be that they've given the benefit of the doubts in some cases they shouldn't have.

I'm hoping these things will start to wash out in Season 2 and that the leagues will start to more fairly represent the categories.

I think that second example is exactly why I think the rules aren’t well enough defined to be honest. I get that they’ve tried to use their discretion. And I’m sure their hearts were in the right place. But for me it’s just created large grey areas and inconsistencies. I think they need to either let people make teams with mixed catergory entrants and be done with it. Or just stick to the cat boundaries and boot people when they br them. I think what they’re doing at the moment is compounding an already flawed catergory system.

Unless they change their policy then it’ll happen next season too. Maybe just to a slightly lesser extent?

Ive not looked on Facebook to see how other people think so maybe I’m in the minority. But I think it needs looking at.

Personally I’d like to see them abandon the w/kg categories entirely and do it all on points like it’s done in the real world 🙂

I guess everyone’s got an opinion so WTRL are up against it aren’t they but I think it’s been a great start and should only improve 👍

Same here. I wonder if they looked at that and found it equally flawed though 🤷‍♂️
