I’ve been busy for a few days, so only just catching up with recent posts.
First up, thanks for the invite to come back and ride for CC. It’s tempting, but the timing isn’t right for me right now. I’ve ended up as Team Captain for WTRL Wanderers and I’ve bought 3 other riders into WTRL from my road club, so I’m a little too involved with the team at this time.
I do actually miss riding with you guys, and I make a point of reading the write-ups and watching the videos when I can and I’m enjoying seeing how you’re doing. I always look out for your results on the WTRL website after each race. So, things may change, but for now I’ll be staying with WTRL.
We may yet stay in Division 1, we’re 17th out of 22 with 2 races to go. Whether that’s a really good idea for next season is another question. There were 23 A riders for other teams on the line for last week’s race and they’ll all be there for Harrogate on Tuesday, which will mean a massive arse-kicking for most of us in our team. We’ve already lost 2 of our squad for the rest of the season as they just weren’t enjoying giving it everything and still getting dumped out the back in the first few kms.
I’ve not enjoyed the kickings any more than they have. We rode really well as a team in the TTT last Tuesday, finishing in 40.17, yet still ended up in 20th place. That was hard to take! But I think for me, being part of the team and just hoping that we can do enough to stay up is what is driving me on. I’m only contributing a point for finishing in scratch races, but that’s still a point.
We all think that relegation for next season would make things a lot better for us. Our top rider would probably be on the podium most weeks rather than battling for a place between 20 and 30. And the rest of us would probably be in the group for a lot longer, with a hope of scoring some more points, especially if we could get the scoring extended from top 30 to top 60!
And as far as Harrogate Reverse goes, I can only agree with @bobinski 🤢🤮
We were short, so we brought in an A rider and a top B. Big mistake! Team was blown to pieces with 4 guys escaping down the road and the other 4 of us splattered all over Yorkshire. Unfortunately, I was first to go. 2 of us got slightly caught out on an early rise. We got back on, but I was having to hold 4.2-4.5W/kg for too long just to get back on. There was another gap that I closed down, but then on the first long climb, I had nothing left.
My own fault, as I’d raced the 2 previous nights. Tiredness, the course and the strength of our team were just too much and so my run of good form came to an early end. Still, I managed a rather nice 20km sightseeing ride, so not all bad!
