An outsider writes!

I’m doing my Team Captain role for WTRL Wanderers - Pool B6.

Sending people links to sign on, chasing them to get their tags right and trying to get them to register on the right Discord server. Needless to say, I’m not quite succeeding, but hoping we’ll be right by 18.15 tomorrow.

Having just recovered from sinus trouble and a back problem, my main tactic was to sign up 7 riders and sit in the team car for the first race. Failed that one too, so I’m on the start line. No excuses. I called up my inner @<Tommy> and said that‘s a -5 out of 10 so just get on with it!

Good luck tomorrow chaps and maybe we’ll meet up in Round 3?

'twas going to do a ZA workout today, but ultimately that seemed like a poor choice with the team race tomorrow. So instead I opted for the short crit city race.

I had a terrible race at the end of last week. It felt like I was pushing excessively hard, but the watts and time were dreadful. The only positive was a good w/kg showing in the sprint which I think was more a function making my weight match reality in zwift than actual watts.

So I was exceedingly happy to be cruising with the lead pack and feeling pretty good as the laps ticked by today. HR was higher than normal near the end, but it didn't seem to be affecting me significantly, nor did the slight tickle in my hamstring. I let the lead pack go just after the penultimate turn (where I often start my ramp-up). Call it a tune-up before tomorrow's team race.

Weight is lower than it's been in several years -- certainly since I got the smart scale in circa 2015. Nobody would ever call me svelte, but it's certainly nice to see the excess lbs slowly going away.

What’s this?

Top 20ish riders in our heat by best ever w/kg 20 min effort. Hopefully some are historical (otherwise some would be a riders).

The guy who pushes over 400 watts for 20minutes is going to be hard to catch!

Edit : the 4.6 guy is a kid so that is real

@JLaw you're signed up for the race, but you still need to add (CycleChat#68) - in brackets excatly like that - after your name on Zwiftpower or your results won't count.

@bobinski you still need to sign up for the race, AND add the (CycleChat#68) after your name in Zwiftpower, AND join team Cyclechat so that you all show up in the same, correct team

Apart from that, everyone else looks good and set to go :hyper:

you know what though? Fu#k them and their numbers!! 😄

In fact, I’m going to say something you all already know for sure....

The race won’t come down to who has the highest w/kg. It’ll come down to a few key moments. The pressure points on the climbs. Can you position yourself in a good place in the group? And then can you hold your position on the climb? I think you’ll get asked those question four or five times in the race? It’s very possible you get unlucky and get gapped at that point and there’s nothing you can do about it. It could happen to all of us or anyone of us. So it’s no need to worry about it.

Just remember every single one of our times counts. That’s all that really matters. Every single time is important. From first to last. We don’t have to prove anything to anyone else. Let’s just do this for each other and the team. So Fu#k the pain. fu#k it when your mind starts to tell you your tired. And fu#k everyone in your race who isn’t wearing the Cyclechat jersey!Doesn’t matter if they finish ahead or behind you. With a higher or lower w/kg. Let’s just show each other how much heart we have.

Game on, VAMOS!!!!

You're 100% right of course - BUT, I was just pointing out that we do have a strong team and it's all to play for to get some points on the board!

Also, it's a long race and as I've seen several times, groups do come back even after getting dropped so never give up!
