I did notice on ZP that you'd had another big weight drop (PS. well done on that - keep it up!), so it was perhaps lucky that last night's race was one you could manage your effort on - whereas a hilly race where you're having to push hard constantly is going to put you VERY close to moving over to C...

Yeah, just my luck that I miss out on the nice flat race and get signed up for the lumpy one instead!

Cheers Steve - been dong a few longer rides in real life and it seems to have helped the weight come off, but then that brings it's own problems with a looming Cat C change! My weight has been fluctuating quite a bit recently as since I have stopped vaping I'm binging on chocolate  I'm weighing myself every few weeks so hopefully I'll lose a bit more for my next weigh in!

The primes are:
  • Yorkshire Sprint Reverse
  • Yorkshire KOM Reverse (double points)
  • Finish (double points)
So on the first climb, I plan to just do enough to stay with a group on the way to the reverse KOM. If a couple get away I won't be too worried - especially if they appear to be racing for a prime that doesn't exist!

Doubt I will be able to compete at the finish so will treat the top of the reverse KOM as my finish line I think.

Ooooo double points :hyper:

Are we still racing on Wed 10 th ?

you mean Friday?

we better get on with arranging so.

personally I may have to miss this one as I’ve elected to take a few days holiday (a house swap with my parents) and am going to leave the bike and neo 2 at home!

is there a consensus that the majority want to race this Friday? If so I’ll go about checking for events.

The consensus was to alternate between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. First event next Tuesday or Wednesday?

This is very true. When I first started racing in the DBR series I was giving 100% all the time but I soon wised up to the low numbers of ZP riders so you can really manage your efforts in Cat D.

These flat ones are ideal for me as you only need to sprint 4 or 5 times during the race and you'll hoover up the prime points. The rest of the time you can just sit in the lead group. Obviously that's easy for me to say as on the flat I'm up there in Cat D but it all changes on the hilly courses.

Racing in D seems more about marking 1 or 2 riders and making sure you finish above them. It's fun, but I suppose at some point I'll have to start entering Cat C races to try and improve as a rider as last night's race was won at probably 70% effort and that's not going to make me improve. But once that Cat changes on ZP to C there is no going back for 90 days

I think this is the same across all the categories to be honest. If you have an edge on the field it gives you more options than if you’re just trying to hang on.

As most of you know a few of us had a trip planned to mont ventoux this year. In fact it was for the weekend that’s just gone by so that was a little sad. Of course with everything that’s gone on the last few months, not going this summer isn’t the end of the world. Just a bit of a shame. The hosts of the accommodation we’d booked have been nothing but very helpful, and we have already re booked the same accommodation for next summer. By which point we will all be absolutely chomping at the bit to have a crack at the cingles!

Also more importantly going next year gives the opportunity to see if anyone else fancies joining us. The invitation is open to all of course. Everyone from this group is more than welcome. And it’ll be a great laugh whether it takes you all day to climb up once or you want to try and complete 3 climbs in a day. If you haven’t met up before it can be a little surreal. But after about 5 seconds you forget you’re meeting blokes you got chatting to on the interwebz and it’s good fun.

It doesn’t matter if you’re winning the races on here or right at the back. Because these hill climbs are just a battle between you, the hill, and most likely your inner demons! 😄. We almost all split up going up the hill. Then join up again later to share stories of glory and woe.

So far there are 11 out of the 12 spaces filled in our accommodation. But if more than one person is interested there is other accommodation within a stones throw from our place.

There’s no rush to commit. I just thought I’d mention it as I got to thinking about ventoux and it seems ironic that zwift are also thinking about ventoux at the moment.

Let me know if your fancy it 👍
Have you dates planned ? Which airport do you fly into?

I’d love to go but I won’t be able to commit until early next year. We were meant to go to Australia this year (should be there now) and now thinking about next summer but with all the uncertainty a trip there may not be on the cards. If it turns out I can make it I can try and sort accommodation.

I think you're probably ready to enter a c race- you might be surprised how much your numbers increase if you push yourself.

I think the first sprint might be my finish line. Then if I can latch on for a while so be it but it'll not be for long so makes sense to go all out then the rest is a workout.

Incidentally I knew it was time to move up from c group when I started winning Kom primes. That shouldn't happen

Ha, I'll see how Monday goes - if I win any KOM's I'll have to seriously consider moving up

Al we’re going Thursday 1st July - Monday 5th of July. The majority of the group are flying into Marseille but a few of the guys are planning to drive over. Because we have 11 out of the possible 12 beds already, we also have the 12th bed reserved (It’s 2 sharing per room). So technically there’s no rush to commit. There is other accommodation close by that’s affiliated to our accommodation if the 12th place gets filled, or you’d prefer your own room. The advantage of using one of those two options is that they come with a good level of support from the hosts. Eg transfers to and from airport, bike workshop, Pick up service if something goes wrong while we’re out etc.

But obv not a problem if you’d prefer to sort your own accommodation. It’d be great to have you along.

Funny you should say that. I knew my time in c was up when I won an London event 3 times up box hill. 😂😂😂
