Self indulgent post alert

First B group crit city race. Went pretty much perfectly for me, albeit in a small race over only 16km

New FTP, 20 minutes all out, a few attacks but generally a group of 17 broke away from the first lap and pretty much stayed together until the end. Drafted as much as I could then sprinted up the cobbles each lap and just piled on the power over the top and for the rest I was confident enough that the group wouldn't splinter aside from maybe the rollers just before the finish, so just sat in.

First bunch sprint since moving up from c...really missed the shot of adrenaline of being at the business end. Top 11 on zwift power contested the sprint, came third but with the lowest power across the race in that group.

Felt great after getting a bit of a kicking on the last Irish league stage up the volcano. Definitely not going to be troubling the front of the proper races but a bit of confidence that I can stick with the front group for longer.

I have decided to do a proper weigh in before the Monday league though as I suspect I may have put weight on as work has been a bit stressful (it's hard to tell if I'm fat or not because I wear scrubs at work and straight into a dressing gown when home...)
Nicely done. 👍🏼 Must have been the night for it. I had my first B race tonight aswell. Beat my target of not last. Actually 19th, managed to cling on to the second group. Played it a lot more tactical as a pose to billy big balls in C. Really happy with the numbers. Same av power as the Crit race that got me in B and double the distance. Also an FTP increase although still off yours. Although I dare say I ll be put back in my place Monday. 🤨

Impressive numbers, you'll be grand; just dial up the power for the first 2 minutes, cling on like a limpet and hope it calms down (same as every c race!).

I miss being able to attack properly too! If I tried to attack in a b race I'm not sure anyone would notice!

My second BRT race in two days and this one was a quite a bit more populated, although earlier in the day I wasn't so sure it was going to be. But they must have had a lot of last minute signups, because 126 took the line (86 on ZwiftPower) including 18 D's (12 on ZP).

As for the result, I *think* I have a good chance of being declared the winner. Why so unsure? Well it turns out that BRT don't allow ZP to do any disqualifications automatically, rather they choose to do it manually themselves, according to their own criteria. And it seems that sometimes it can take days for them to get round to that before posting the results on their own website (for example, they still haven't posted last night's TT results yet). Currently I'm listed as second, but only behind someone who is down on ZP as a C and was putting out 2.7w/kg average for his 20 minutes (although his 95% may just come within tolerances).

The race itself was pretty good fun. 10 laps of Crit City in what I regard as being the forward direction (up the cobbles, down the rollers), but unlike most other times I've done it, it was a mass start, which meant the key was doing a blisteringly hard start and holding on to the back of the Cat C riders for as long as you could, hoping to be the last D dropped. And that is exactly what I managed - the exception was the D who beat me, who I only saw on the first half of the first lap, but then pulled away with a mixed B/C group on the Prime and never appeared in sight again. I only finally stopped being able to stay with the weaker C's with three laps to go, by which point I had anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds over all my rival D's. And just when I finally thought I'd lost the draft for good, I then managed to catch onto the back of a group of B's (not the leading group mind you) as they lapped me and held on to them for most of a lap!

Will I do another BRT race? The hassle with the results makes me think I won't bother unless one happens to be starting just as I fancy getting on Zwift. I do note that in the previous series they've done, a lot of the top half of the league tables are taken up by people who have just entered one or two events only - compare that to the DBR leagues where there are loads of people (not just CCers) who are back each week for the vast majority of the races. From that, I get the feeling that a lot of people feel like me about their races - might dip in and out of them, but very few are interested in signing up for a full league.

Also still not convinced on mass starts - it was an interesting difference, but it's very easy to lose who you are actually riding against when you're 3 or 4 D's in a pack of 15-20 C's, and wondering how many other D's might be up the road that you can't see on the window on the right (I had ZP open on my phone, so at least I could tell there).

Lesson learnt within the C race; I felt the lead group were going too hard so dropped back. And they were; all over the 3.2 w/kg limit so DQ'd: https://zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=922869

As a result a 2nd win. OK, so I was the only 'C' to finish without being DQ'd, but it all counts :okay:

Just kept under the w/kg limit despite no data or powerups as Zwift Companion won't work on my old phone after the latest upgrade :cursing:

The result has put me back up to a 'B' though  - I'm not a 'B', I'm too fat and slow to be a 'B'.

Well done for getting into B ... lots of other B's here to ride with :okay:

Looks like you're the same height as me but 5 kg lighter so that makes me an even bigger fatty
