Our tactics weren't bad really; one person up ahead in a two man break and 4ish in a 8-10 man chasing group with our leader. The only issue was that once ferres was gone there was no one else who was going to attack. Race dynamic totally changed when he took off, there was no danger of us dropping the dangerman. The lower relative speed of everyone on mtbs seemed harder to make a break stick as well.
That fagherli guy saved all his matches. He nearly pipped me at the line after I attacked when we were sure he was safe in 2nd place as well. In a more stacked field the pace in our group would have been harder and it would have been constantly splintering, but dbr played the situation well.
