I'm trying to stick to 1 race a week (although last week was 2 with the CC handicap) and the rest workouts. I'm trying to focus the workouts on the areas I suffer with the most, which is the burst of power and then followed by a tempo followed by another burst of power. This is working OK for me in C races, but my average in these races is still well off B pace!

Last night, apart from the legsnapper, it was pretty easy to sit in that group - I didn't have enough to make a proper break away and make it stick, but I wasn't going to get dropped either. I definitely need to start riding with stronger riders more frequently to help me make that step up.

Your one minute power was really high; and you did break up that group on the third climb, but I think you are right about needing to ride with faster riders. I can see how people get comfortable/end up staying in a lower category for too long as it is fun to be at the sharp end

So, do we want to set up another TTT/Hare and Hounds race?

Same course and I'll apply the adjusted handicaps I suggested last week, unless there are any objections.

D leave at 0 minutes
C leave at + 3 minutes
B leave at + 5 minutes 50 seconds
A leave at + 7 minutes 30 seconds

Do we want to move it to next Wednesday 27 May rather than Friday 29 May?

Interesting perspective @<Tommy> - my W/KG is pretty good because I'm at 66KG right now, but I felt like the climb wasnt long enough for me to really make that count and that it favoured the high power riders.

I suppose that shows that it is hell for everyone
😄

You’re quite right. Whether it’s watts or w/kg you need enough to get up the hill or you’re doomed!

I bridged that gap to Winthur too which was quite a big effort but I couldn't do much to make it stick. Had there been 3 or 4 of us that could have been a nice break.

On that 3rd climb I just hit the front with the aim of stopping anyone else attacking and I think it worked. I don't think anyone fancied pushing 5.5 w/kg at that point  I did the climb in 1:08 on that 3rd lap which was a decent time too  But well and truly buggered when i got over the top xx(

It's interesting when you look at other riders in the race, their numbers and where they came. Take the chap in 15th - based on last night's race he's been promoted to B yet he was way down the pack. His 20m and 5m numbers are all better than me, but his 1m is pretty average. He was clearly getting dropped on the hills last night and this is what did for him.

In Zwift races, having that punch of power, but also able to hold cat level tempo power after a big effort, is the holy grail!

Yep I do this a lot. Look at Oscar just who came second but possibly first over the line.

No one in that list has a lower 20min w/kg but he has the largest 1 minute power. He is also very heavy, so again just shows you horses for courses.

He was with me at the front on every one of those climbs .... couldn't shake the bugger! Shows that the legsnapper is a 'sprinters' climb and not a 'climbers' climb. Be interesting next week in Harrogate where the climbs are a little longer.
