Light weight bike and wheels or tron for tonight ?

Im leaning towards the lightweight setup

I'm doing lightweight largely as the climb is relatively early in the race and I don't want to lose contact very quickly.

It's harder to answer for the lighter fellas- as lightweight setup would mean your hill attacks will be more devastating but that's pointless if you lose the front group at the gun.

Newbee question here... All this talk of set ups etc, say you go for an aero set up rather than lightweight how much difference would it make watts wise on the climb tonight?

That's where my bike choice is heading - in C I'm at the top of the w/kg so should be able to hold on to the group of genuine C's on the climb, but as you say, it's all pointless if I get dropped before we get to the climb :okay:

Tough choice.

I reckon the race will take about 50 minutes - and climbing Box Hill will twice will be about 16 minutes of that, which is a fair proportion. Add in the sharp ramp out of the underground I think a lightweight setup will be best.

It may not be a massive difference, but it might just be enough of a difference between holding onto, and losing the wheel in front. There are a few sections on Box that allows for drafting, so holding on to wheels will have an advantage. I'm a lighter rider (compared to most C riders) so I'm hoping I can get away with a more aero set-up with lighter wheels, rather than say going full Tarmac lightweight. Heavier riders tonight may have a better chance with a lightweight bike/wheels set up just to give them that slight advantage on the 12 mins of Box Hill climbing :okay:

May be absolute bollox, but that's my personal view :okay:

There is also the little lump up Northumberland Ave (30-40 seconds?) - could be as much as 60/40 split tonight between flat/climbing :B)

Job done - I have gone Spesh Tarmac Pro and the Meilenstein lightweight wheels.

an important styling question - I have unlocked the cycling cap. I assume orange cycling cap is acceptable teamwear? Most seem to go for ginger locks, but I quite like the cycling cap look :okay:

I'm an all green kind of guy in these races  Including the cap.

@Norry1 - that setup will give you a great shot at a PB up box. Looking forward to seeing your time

@Joffey - equipment choice doesn't effect your Watts/power output at all. But Zwift simulates things like weight and aero effects, and every frame/wheelset has different weight and aero characteristics so just like in the real world you can choose an aero setup that might be a bit heavier and you will fly on the flats but be a bit slower on the climbs (because it's heavier) or vice versa.
