Yeah but as you said it was half the distance - you were clearly pacing yourself
Goes without saying

Time trial coming up for me Wednesday next week. Newest gadget in the pursuit of optimizing: Halo skewers...should save me 0.5 - 1 watt.

I've just been to Annecy last week - was scorching hot while we were there. Don't know if you've been before but the lake, and the old town are both wonderful - really enjoyed it there. I didn't do any cycling from Annecy, just a day later in the holiday over in Morzine, but I hope you enjoy the cycling as well as the lake/views/architecture/bars and restaurants!
We went there as a group last August and it was very hot. But you're right. Annecy is beautiful.

So hot that we pretty much did one climb a day and that was it. First day we did the Forclaz and sat at the restaurant at the summit which has a fantastic view down the lake.

We did the Semnoz as well but just crashed out at the top for lunch followed by a nice leisurely descent.

Going back as much the same group plus a couple of other friends this year. Last year we were 6k up a mountain so every day started with a descent and ended with a climb. This year we're lakeside so that should be good.

There's a cycle path that runs most of the way around the lake with a few bits of road thrown in which makes for a really nice recovery day.

My only low point last year was I completely blew up on the Madeleine. Got to 9k from the summit and just bonked. I think it was a mix of heat, tiredness and not eating enough before we set out. Got home with 100 miles on the clock and felt a failure. Aiming to put it right this year.
