Yeah undoubtedly. Reminds me of the push for 29er or 650b wheels for mountain bikes - suddenly it was like the wheels people had been riding quite happily for years were absolutely hopeless and everyone HAD to upgrade their MTB to one with bigger wheels - and they did! Once everyone in the pro peleton is riding disc brakes it will further increase the marketing pressure on peole to change their road bikes to ones with disc brakes. so ££££ for the bike and component manufacturers.
Having said that, persobally I love the disc brakes on my road bike and of all the changes from my old bike to new one (aluminium to carbon frame, aero features, comfort, upgraded groupset, carbon wheels etc) it's by far my favourite, and the feature I notice and appreciate the most, and I wouldn't go back to rim brakes. I appreciate not everyone likes the look of them, but it doesn't bother me at all.
In that interview, the mechanic said some riders loved the disc brakes, and others not. One of the main reasosns he gave for some not liking them was the weight which I found surprising because I know the pro's often have to add weight to their bikes to meet the UCI weight limit so I'd be surprised if the disc brakes actually made much if any difference to the weight of a pro's bike? It's probably down to habit and personal preference - a bit like why some pro's choose not to ride aero frames and choose "lightweight" frames instead despite their being no weight difference nowadays (due to the UCI weight limit again), and some still prefer mechanical groupsets over electronic.
