Just set up Thursday's race - decided to go for the Surrey Hills course to fulfill the requests for something hilly and over an hour (only London or Watopia are options for Thursday so we can do the Innsbruck course another time).

I reckon we should follow this with a flat TT course the following week

you should watch some of his stuff - he was a very interesting bloke - bloody nuts but interesting

They repeated one of his series’ a couple of years back during the day and it became compulsive viewing when I was working from home. It was him going back over old projects he’d done and talking about the industrial revolution at the same time.

I take your point Andy about the north south divide. But I’d go a little further and say the reason he isn’t celebrated more around the country is a reflection of how little value we put into engineering in general in this country.

Still looking great - have you changed anything on it since last year's TOC?

Pretty much the same. Different colour saddle. I keep meaning to put a chunkier looking stem on it but the perfect one alludes me... I have lighter wheels I put on sometimes but for Cambridge these ones a pretty much ideal.

It’s good that you start flicking thru the channels and plump for one of his programmes thinking maybe I can watch this , then end up you can’t take eyes of what he’s up to

Very true. He reminds me of my Dad in a lot of ways, who left school at 14 went back to night school college and became a draughtsman whilst serving an apprenticeship metal fabrication. My Dad was a engineer draughtsman all his life whilst progressing onto board level management.

He went back to college in his sixties and learnt the basics of Autocad when he returned to self employment after being made redundant in his mid sixties., I used to marvel at the paper engineering drawings my Dad did and I really enjoyed technical drawing at school.

Thanks for the invite Paul, I'm going to struggle (again) to make it this week.
