another 23 miles and felt better than yesterdays 17, so I must be on the mend, even if my legs, on that very little hill, had a good complain

Clear skies with long shadows

a bit messy in places, it hasn't rained in days and yet the water still runs out of the fields very december

it had been quite pleasant in the sunshine until here when it dipped below the horizon, it is amazing how quickly the temperature then drops off, about 5 mile downhillish, I soon felt cold

and that 23 miles takes me up to 5940 only 40 mile to go and the rest of the year to do it in (or at least till xmas day)

I’m only a pretend Cyclist. Who gets his kicks plodding around, taking in some scenery and enjoying the great outdoors. But 3 x 50k rides in a row now - maybe I’m starting to get just a little bit more serious ? 🤷‍♂️

Fab way to start the weekend. 3 layers uptop, 2 pairs of quality socks; and decent gloves with thin liner gloves inside kept most of the very cold and miserable weather out.

Really enjoyed it as ever 😁

When the day finally got light and the frost started to melt I faced a dilemma, up to the hills or stay more in the lowlands. The forecast was positive but only a few degrees drop at 400 masl could be icy. So I headed off to Kirby Lonsdale through thin air and pale sunshine. I stocked up at a bakery, still open despite a tragedy in a flat a few doors down earlier in the week. From there the limestone called me up to Hutton Roof and a navigation around Farleton fell. The roads were damp and full of farmyard. I continued westward into a cold breeze to the Kent estuary and Arnside. A pasty warmed me enough to climb the hill to Silverdale, past Leighton Moss and its bearded tits, then up and down the hills to Warton. Cold rain dampened the return home but endorphins, tea and tiffin have done their job. 85 km with 1003 m of climbing.

Pictures of picnic spot by Farleton Fell and Arnside viaduct.

I think we have another entrant for next year 😁 ,that's what I take the above quote to mean , I noticed him following the thread and was wondering if he would jump aboard

Oh yes. I’ll be joining up if that’s ok; and am really looking forward to it already 😁

3rd go at this ride and managed to complete it for the first time. I was out for six and a half hours, with around 5 x 5 minute breaks, Komoot says 3.40 because I had to switch off my phone for about 3 miles and battery died about half a mile from the car.

I'm not sure if I'll ever revisit this bumpy old route, I think it's time to find some nice flowing single track and open moorland.

absolutely no interest in this today, but another 20 miles takes me up to 5960 for the year - so only another 40 to go.

and of course this was the darkest evening, the sun will set just a little later from now on (or at least till next june)

My first ride for just over a month today. A combination of crap weather and some gardening jobs that require whatever dry weather we get have kept me off the bike. That and a drastic loss of momentum as soon as I completed my second lap of the world last month. At least I completed the Half Century a Month Challenge today with a 50km ride around the Severnside villages. One more ride will bring up the 2,000 miles for the year. I'll be spending all the other dry days completing my garden tasks that Mrs.D informs me I have overlooked this year.
