A meeting cancelled and a dry morning so got out for an unexpected ride today. Dry but also cool with a moderate westerly so headed north to mitigate the time riding into it. Picked my way along the rough line of the Lancaster to Kendal canal and the M6 to Killington of services fame. There is a sizeable lake behind the services and a pleasant route behind for riding. Certainly the facility for cyclists is more pleasant than that used by motorists. Then I continued north to Fox’s Pulpit, where the Quaker George Fox led an open air service on top of a substantial hill. Lots of skylark and meadow pipit in evidence. Lunch was in Kirby Lonsdale before the clouds closed in again for a few rainy spots. 100 km with 1100 m of climbing.
Pictures are of Lancaster canal being swamped by trees, Killington lake, Howgills and the descent from Fox’s Pulpit.
