Todays ride (i have a few days off from work
) was to go over to the Levels and see them now that they are flood free.
Set off in bright sunshine with blue sky but a bit chilly and headed out of town on my normal escape route.
Did my usual back lanes route through the pretty postcard villages of Shepton Beauchamp and Barrington , through Hambridge to Curry Rival, where i dropped down the stupidly steep 16% back road and across the levels heading to the now famous Burrow Mump. All this time the headwind was increasing, and the clouds had started to appear.
Turning off from the back lane i headed to the village of North Curry to try out the Cafe there, as i have often gone past but not stopped. Today i was in luck as outside was empty with only a few customers inside. Went in and ordered coffee (in one of them splunger things i can't spell or pronounce
) and a cream and jam scone. The cost, £2.80, the taste, one of the best ive had, the service, spot on as well. I will definately be going back there. I must have attracted attention because within tem mins of me sitting down the place was full. The sun came back out and the clouds went. hurrar.
Then it was decision time, easy route home following the NCN or go up Rock Hill (a nasty little 9% that took me ages to master), sod it, rock hill it is, mainly due to the fact i did it the other week on my synapse and wanted to see how the Six coped with it. Well i wont say i breezed up it, but got to the top in one hit, so pleased with that (the six wins btw). Then it was just a case of cruising across the moor, up spooky graveyard hill into Ilminster and home.
All in 39.4 miles, bringing my weeks total to just over 104
Setting off with sun and blue sky.
Sunlight through the trees.
Hambridge church.
This was where the train was going through the water during the floods.
The river.
One Cafe, must go in....
Had to be done, and only £2.80.
(jam was one of the best i have ever had)
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, oh well it will burn off that scone...
