Been staining garden furniture all day so this evening tried to go for a quick run out and tried to beat the sunset - almost made it.^_^

A tad under 70 miles here today to Central London.

Skirted south of cambridge first through cherry Hinton. Which sounds like a lovely place - until you get there. Still, a nice view of Cambridge further along .

Then it was down past duxford and into Essex . Huge fields and big skies here.

On down into Hertfordshire, my endless quest to escape bloody traffic proved a quest too far on this seriously rutted bridle way. Still, a nice quiet corner...

At least most of the roads I found were not too busy..

After a few hours bumbling along lanes, through Clavering and the Hadhams I arrived at Ware, Herts and into the Lea Valley cycle route..

A few miles of tow path spat me out at Stamford Hill. From there I headed west along residential streets until I reached the Arse and couldn't resist this pic..

As I took the pic a local called me a c@@t. Welcome to London I thought. Friendly bunch.

Still, at least further along was a reminder of home...

Not that I went in - given the friendliness of the locals I'd just experienced.

Finally, I found a canal to navigate along, so I could avoid a few roads. Took me through Camden Lock...

It was rammed with crowds, but after that, the stretch past regents park was lovely.

Finished the ride at nearby St. John's wood at 4pm or so after leaving my village near Newmarket at 9am. Fairly quick for a slow cyclist and a fantastic days ride!

76 miles today in the same time it took me to do 84 yesterday! Was warmer first thing than has been the last couple of days, but a lot winder hence the slower speed.

Did the same as yesterday and just rode without a route in mind and followed my nose, lots of new roads ridden but glad to get home with having ridden over 260 miles over three days, need to have a day off the bike tomorrow.

Todays ride (i have a few days off from work :hyper:) was to go over to the Levels and see them now that they are flood free.

Set off in bright sunshine with blue sky but a bit chilly and headed out of town on my normal escape route.

Did my usual back lanes route through the pretty postcard villages of Shepton Beauchamp and Barrington , through Hambridge to Curry Rival, where i dropped down the stupidly steep 16% back road and across the levels heading to the now famous Burrow Mump. All this time the headwind was increasing, and the clouds had started to appear.

Turning off from the back lane i headed to the village of North Curry to try out the Cafe there, as i have often gone past but not stopped. Today i was in luck as outside was empty with only a few customers inside. Went in and ordered coffee (in one of them splunger things i can't spell or pronounce :shy:) and a cream and jam scone. The cost, £2.80, the taste, one of the best ive had, the service, spot on as well. I will definately be going back there. I must have attracted attention because within tem mins of me sitting down the place was full. The sun came back out and the clouds went. hurrar.

Then it was decision time, easy route home following the NCN or go up Rock Hill (a nasty little 9% that took me ages to master), sod it, rock hill it is, mainly due to the fact i did it the other week on my synapse and wanted to see how the Six coped with it. Well i wont say i breezed up it, but got to the top in one hit, so pleased with that (the six wins btw). Then it was just a case of cruising across the moor, up spooky graveyard hill into Ilminster and home.

All in 39.4 miles, bringing my weeks total to just over 104 :bicycle:

This was where the train was going through the water during the floods.

The river.

One Cafe, must go in....

Had to be done, and only £2.80. :hungry: (jam was one of the best i have ever had)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, oh well it will burn off that scone...

The enemy and I went to Newbury today along (again) the K&A canal, it was a lovely sunny morning and a great ride. I took my new MB, which I am falling in love with, and the enemy took her trusty hybrid. 32.17 mile all in.

The track has not been getting the love lately from those what look after it, I expect they are trying to catch up from the winter storm damage,

Rode from home to the hospital to meet Ken from dialysis again tonight. Actually I got back ages ago but this brand spanking new Asus laptop is fecking useless and won't bloomin' work. I'm putting it back to factory settings tomorrow and returning the bloody thing. I only type at 70wpm and it cannot keep up. It also won't let me have more than one internet tab open at a time without falling over, and the curser suddenly leaps to another part of the text randomly, but I digress (out of sheer frustration)

I left home at just gone 9pm and took the usual route. The smell of the night was fantastic. Just like being 12 again and cycling home from Guides or from my Nan's place. Brilliant. I didn't hurry and just enjoyed myself and made a mental note to move my handlebars a smidge as they are rolled up a bit too much for my liking after I changed the stem yesterday. It felt fine just whizzing around the green.
I got to the hospital in 35:44 which is a minute and a quarter up on tuesday without making a huge effort, just spinning along and having a blast. I wish that the hospital was further away, or that I had had the time to take the longer route. Maybe Saturday or next tuesday depending on whether they muck himself's dialysis time about on Saturday as its a bank holiday weekend.
8.33 miles at an average of 14mph.
