Old Plodder

Living at the top of a steep 2 mile climb
My ride today was a repeat of the 20 miler of last Sunday, only this time I was riding into a head wind on the 10 mile uphill stretch, however it could have been helping me on the way back up a fairly steep climb that I got up today without walking & had two gears to spare. ^_^

Recovery now until Thursday, don't want to rush things. I have promised to go out with my nephew, so I'll probably need to up my mileage to at least 30 to keep him happy.

This is one of my favourite threads but looks like i wont be able to contribute any time soon bcos i busted my achilles tendon completely and am now under long rehab. They're saying minimum recovery in 2 months, full recovery in 4-6 months.

Here for rides.
A ride with the informal lads club this morning. One chap out for his first time with us and another on his first ride this year. The noob came back. Glutton for punishment. So six of us headed off south under a clear blue sky. Very glad I wore short sleeves and shorts. The gilet came off after a bit. Reaching the fringes of the South Downs we turned east at West Chiltington and then back north at which point a chain gang was formed and we stormed up the B road to Coolham. Dropping the noob and the TEC in the process. I swapped to the back of the team and off we went. Through Barns Green we resisted the temptation of the Bax Castle pub and two hours after setting off we were back where we started so those with not enough miles in their legs peeled of, as planned, for home, and those more game-for-a-laugh, all two of us, headed north to the fringes of the Surrey Hills. One banana, a bounty, plain choc natch, and a pint of whole milk at Newdigate Village Stores later and two of us continued on the Surrey Cycleway for a bit until I judged it fit to turn south so has to hit our target of 40 miles. 65km clocked up on the Etrex 50m from my front door.

I do like the sound of a White Industries freewheel when coasting.

De-light-ful. And I think I have 'caught the sun'.

My 1st ride since returning from the lakes with strengthened legs!! It was glorious warm :sun:and I headed out to Uffington, with a quick stop to sort my cycle computer which was having a crazy moment or two, dirty connection I think!

After Uffington I headed for upton magna and had my only "moment" of the ride when another cyclist who had stopped in a pull in decided to pull back into the road straight into my path at 20mph:banghead:. He didn't get a polite hello from me!

I then continued up haughmond hill and it was time to stop and take a layer off:wahhey:!!

It was then on to Rodington, Longden on tern and isombridge.

I then turned left onto the route 81 ncn and began the long climb up to wrockwardine and headed on to leaton. I had stopped to look at the OS map as I was in new territory here and I thought I could see a small lane that would allow me to rejoin the ncn 81, but it turned out to be a green lane and do I didn't fancy that and doubled back to wrockwardine and then the nice downhill back to charlton. The only downside was a fairly strong headwind had developed and so the final stretch back to upton magna was quite a slog and the legs were feeling it a bit as I got back to Shrewsbury.

I must have seen about 40 cyclists out en route and they were all cheerily returning my hello's which was great! I even had a nice cheery wave from a chap in an open top MG as I climbed haughmond hill which was a breath of fresh air.

A fabulous ride

Yikes - nasty! How did you do it?

Maybe you could go swimming to try and keep fit? (Strap a float to your legs so you could swim with arms only?)

Well that was fun...NOT .Pete had a route all mapped out,was supposed to be my first ride over 50 miles but we soon had to change due to the wind, riding 30 mile into a head wind isn't fun especially as it was a very strong wind and the cross winds when they came, were taking the wheels from under us.So we decided to do circuits around Scunthorpe on the country roads and ended up having to ride through town but no matter which way you turned you were always riding into a headwind .Got home safe and even managed to call into our local for a swift one but still enjoyed it although we are both knackered.

GWS Justiffa and do what the doctors say otherwise it will be longer for recovery, don't even think of the bike for 6 months, I managed to damage my aductor tendon and that was a 12 month recovery, so heal properly and even if you feel well enough to ride........don't, give it time:thumbsup:

You have my sympathy, wish I could give you good news and false hope but the medics today have a nasty habit of being very accurate

2 rides today, well sort of.

Was planning on doing the clubs women's ride as a bit of an easy one, but to make sure I got my training hours in and to give myself some solo ride time to ride my TT bike in my new TT position to adapt to it I decided to ride to the start 23 miles away. Set off leaving myself ~1hr 45 mins to get there, ended up averaging over 20mph including passing through Manchester City centre and being well early for the ride to find the cafe at the meet wasn't open yet so I couldn't even get a brew. So piddled about for a bit to pass the time.

All the women turned up plus a few token guys, one of which was one of our clubs fast men (came 2nd in yesterdays 10TT, about a minute and 10 secs quicker than me in 5th), I thought he was going to be riding with the womens ride too, but as we all set off he asked my plans, turned out he was going to do 1.5-2 hours level 2 on his TT bike, as I was on my TT bike too (getting used to my new position) I decided to "ditch" the womens ride and head off with him around Chelford. Easy it was not.... he was talking to me and I was only able to respond with a couple of words now and then, hah!

All in 63 miles, about one third to half of it in my new TT position which is getting pretty comfy.
