A late out this morning..
24 ml, dropping down to join the A8 then to Langbank, bagging a FTF on a new geocache then up through Bishie. A long haul (for me) along the Georgetown Rd to Houston turning off to join 75 at Locher water then home. A shout out to all the cyclists who were out this morning on the route. I met these guys on the way home...(its okay, they are allegedly the infamous Lost Legion XVII)

Is your legion related to this legion on the path Paisley-Gourock? Or are they indeed the same fellows?
Do you know why they are on the path?

Out on my club ride yesterday. We left Chipping Sodbury at 9 & headed for the South Cotswolds passing thru Wickwar and Kingswood before climbing up to North Nibley & Stinchcombe, we then climbed the even steeper hill out of Dursley !

3 of us then took the shorter route home via Wotton under Edge & Iron Acton thus avoiding the forecast rain

That's the boys of the Lost Legion with their undercoat and yes, same lads track/path.
The Legio17 history is HERE
The Legion 9 (who did get 'lost'in the UK) is HERE
A 'roman road' and forts locally to the south and NE also Paisley (or Vanduara) was a Roman city/town.
They were left for a while they got their final coat, one of the best cycle track 'sculptures' I've come across.
A wee bit more on the cycle track Legion XVII HERE ( I wonder who the blogger is ?)

Here for rides.
unexpectedly brief. I was unable to determine where the road surface as a series of small ponds had sprung up overnight. I would have been better off with a canoe. Given the strength of the wind gusts toppling over and drowning was a risk. So I bailed.

A special word of contempt for those drivers who wait at the edge of said ponds when a car is coming the other way but who plough on regardless when it is 'only' a cyclist coming. Nobbers.

Cheers for that! My ladies group did a ride that way heading to Gourock, we never got round to properly research the history of the guardians of the path. I would like to ride back that way, this time incorporating the Quarriers Village. Will give you a pm when we do it, if you like to join us for a bit

15 miles on the turbo trainer, should have been 20 but had a blow out. Yes I am the person who is so unlucky that I can get a flat tyre on an exercise bike!

I've had that a couple of times in the past.

another of those 'rides' over to my parents' home and back today. the only difference being today was the day my step-father has his op (3rd on the same hip inside 10 months!) and I also had a Dr's appointment so it was an out no matter what the weather job and to be honest it wasn't that bad. I seemed to miss most of the really bad weather (torrential rain which has left a few interesting new 'ponds' on the roads but nothing serious). Going out was hard work - cycling for 25 mins then stopping a sitting in a warm waiting area is not great.... then onto the country lanes, and a photo stop at midday (actually it is a stop to take my steroids and turn the alarm off on my phone, but...)

An oak tree planted in 1887. I was surprised at who little it has grown since then - probably because of the ones I knew when we lived in Surrey which were massive...

A nice patch of light across the road in Bostock Green.

From there it was a battle with the headwind (yet again) and playing dodge along a main road (A54) with hawthorn hedge clippings as the hedge was being cut back! Strangely I managed a PR2 along that strava segment despite the playing dodge but it is just possible it had something to do with the exceptionally large red lorry behind me... thankfully as I approached the mini-roundabout the only car approaching it indicated left and got a wave of thanks... I had been holding back (though still moving) trying to figure out which way (left or right being the only options) they were going and so many vehicles don't indicate at that particular mini-roundabout and then turn left that it is really annoying, but I'm going right and the road surface is horrendous on the roundabout and there is no-way I will risk it...

From there it was back to back lanes and the odd idiot driver, but nothing too serious and onto my 2nd set of flood water to cycle through before heading off along the single track lanes prior to my parents' home. As I was approaching the M6, I could see the south bound traffic was totally stationary. Completely and utterly stationary and then I heard an helicopter take off... the air ambulance, close enough for me to read its (can't think of the correct term here) 'licence number'. As I cycled up and over the M6, it was clear there had been a major accident less than 150m from the bridge on the north bound carriageway. 2 HGV's had collided and one was off the carriageway, the other blocking all lanes including the hard shoulder. South bound was in the process of being 'reopened'... but what got me the most was that a motorist who had just overtaken me on the approach to the bridge, stopped on the bridge, got out of his car with a set of binos and promptly stood in the middle of the road looking at the scene! Talk about rubber necking - jesh that is taking it too far.

About 10 mins after getting to my parents' home the weather broken big time and for several hours we had nothing but torrential rain... still it was washing the roads clean for my journey home . Not to mention leaving me with much more flood water to ride through.... Other than the M6 still being exceptionally slow south bound and virtually closed north bound, both lorries still in situ, there was little to report for the journey home - not surprising given it was dark (but it did stay dry for me!) other than meeting lorries on roads I don't normally meet them on, but all were great giving me loads of room overtaking me etc.

Great pics as ever! (The oak tree pic made me think of my Great Grandmother who died when I was about 8. She was born in 1880 and died in 1977- to think she was already 7 years old when that oak was planted seems amazing to me).

Dialysis for hubster again so I cycled down to meet him. I decided to follow a different route for a change just to see how it was you know. I went via the Norwich Road instead of Hart's Farm Road as I got in the wrong lane at the lights and thought 'stuff it, I'll go this way then. From the Waitrose roundabout I followed the usual route to Hethersett and at the top of the hill (tiny little rise but I'm not very fit) I turned Left and rode in the pitch black down Colney (pronounced coney) Lane which brings me out on the B1108, aka the Watton Road. At the B1108 I turned right and then right at the lights and into the hospital grounds, up the hill, second off at the roundabout and to the lay by where I meet Hubster. I beat him there by about 2 minutes.
The ride was only 7.8 miles so half a mile short of the usual ride, which was a bit disappointing. I did it in 31:28 so was averaging 15mph so I was quite pleased.
I have been on MMR and have worked out a slightly longer route in to the hospital complex and will give that a go on Thursday, weather permitting.
