Ride of two bikes today.

Original plan was to go out on the Sirrus do 60ish miles and then head out on the usual Sunday morning ride with our lass, thus doing 82 miles and hitting the Strava Challenge.

I set out at just after 5:30 after watching the BBC weather forecast, ice they warned, nah I said looks okay to me so off I go. Very very frosty and puddles frozen so I take it nice and steady, I have one slide but stay upright so I am happy.

As it gets lighter and I decide to stay on the main roads I try and go a bit faster. Nothing doing, really really hard work. I then realise (about 45 miles in) that there is something wrong with the rear wheel. The disc brake keeps coming on by itself, not fully, but enough to cause a lot of resistance. Limp home at 58 miles and our lass isn't ready.

Okay I say, I'm going to do another half hour whilst you get ready, switch the ice wheels on the winter bike for its normal wheels, quick 6 miles to check all is well, nope, front brake needs adjusting, get home quickly adjust the front brake and off we go.

I work out as we are heading home that I will only need to do another 12 miles to hit the imperial century, by this time I have cooled down and am freezing (our lass rides a lot slower than me!) but sod it, as we approach the house I tell our lass I will see her in an less than an hour, 14 miles later and I have done my second imperial ^_^

Question for @ianrauk - Can I count this towards the monthly challenges? I see it as being one ride, just broken up quite a bit!

Up to you really.
The breaks seemed to be short, the ride was in one day.. so why not?

Consider it a single ride, weather and bike switches...........I would

After what seemed an age since I was last out on the bike (mid November) I decided today was the day. Spent ages trying to find my stuff (it had been tidied away in the run up to Christmas), got togged up and introduced myself to my bike again. Decided to put a little more air into the tyres, so pumped away like mad for a few minutes, then unscrewed the pump connector only for the valve stem to come unscrewed as well. I dug out the tool kit, put said valve stem back in it's place and pumped away like mad again:heat:. All was well this time, so I set off, only to be overtaken by a low flying duck:eek: from the nearby river. Further into the ride I discovered I hadn't forgotten how to turn the pedals and began to enjoy the ride. No wind, no rain. I suddenly became aware of the sound of a galloping horse, I looked around but couldn't see any horse at all. It sounded so close I should have been able to see it, just nothing, the sound steady receded into the distance - what was that all about! I carried on looking at the debris from the recent flooding and just letting my mind drift along. All to soon I arrived home again, only a nine mile loop but worth all the effort. Now I don't feel quite so bad when I cut myself a portion of homemade sticky toffee pudding:mrpig:. I'm back to work tomorrow, but hoping to get out and about again (and a little bit further) net weekend.

A great winters day ride. 53 miles with @toptom
Hemel - Berkhamstead - Chesham - G.Missenden - Wendover - Aston Clinton - Tring (stopped for coffee) up Ivinghoe Beacon - Little Gddesden - Great Gaddesden - Redbourn - Home. We delayed heading out by half an hour to give the ice more of a chance to melt and stuck to main roads on the way out. There was a couple of ice patches but nothing major and main roads meant we upped the pace a little in places.
Good to be out on the bike and starting to burn off the Christmas food & booze.

100km Audax from Thorne through the Isle of Axeholme. Icy start cold throughout the day. My first 100km ride since last April's FNRttC from York to Hull and fittingly it share a substantial portion the route.
There's not a lot of visual interest on the route. It's peppered with disused and converted Methodist and Wesleyan chapels. John Wesley was born in Epworth a few miles off route. This church clock at Reedness is interesting though. It has the number twelve replaced with thirteen.

3rd time out this year slowly building myself back up. Only 3 7mile laps fairly soggy & half of it riding into a strong headwind. 13.4mph average which I was abit disappointed with but have to factor in the wind I guess.
