err - well today was more of an assault course than a ride. Mandatory because I had a dr's appointment and needed the meds and dr's receptionist this morning was having none of letting me have an appointment for the surgery that is within walking distance totally failing to comprehend that not all of us have cars as transport and insisting that I have an appointment that needs a 13 mile bike ride.

So it was into town 6 1/2 miles away for an afternoon appointment... my lane was a mess, but passable with care and one or two 'bunny hops'. Then up the hill, it was OK but I did have to dodge some fallen branches, then to the start of the fun. Weaverham Rd, only it was only closed almost at the end rather than any indication that there were problems at the beginning.... thankfully the workmen let me through, one even coming back to help me get my bike up & over the fallen tree: there was just enough room for a pedestrian to squeeze threw between the fallen tree and the hawthorn hedge (my alternative was the A556 which I don't really like cycling and in bad weather, not happening - the workmen understood). Checking at the end of the road at the crossroads I noted that my alternative for coming home (Millington Lane) was open despite being half blocked by another fallen tree.... only by the time I got back there, the police had now closed that road as well and it was totally blocked by diggers etc trying to move said fallen tree, so I asked the police if I could go back the way I came and they were happy to let me through... back to climbing over trees only this time uphill rather than downhill....:training:

the fun and games were not quite over... some idiot in a car decided to 'challenge' me over my right of way - I wouldn't normally argue but I was already going fast downhill and the parked cars were on his side of the road and road brakes in the wet downhill (around 30mph  at the time) well they just don't stop and I think he thought I would... he stopped in the end - I can't print my words to him but he heard them alright...

I don't think dr's appointments should feel like such hard work :heat:... somewhat more than a 'ride today' more of an adventure workout with a few swear words through in for good measure! http://www.strava.com/activities/98780270

My ride today .....

Exactly one half hour in front of the TV watching MTV videos. Don't know my ave speed, top speed, cadence or hrm as nothing connected, but it felt brilliant to be back on the turbo ;-)

Quick loop today except I got caught up with the chaos of The Hunt. Masses of horseback peeps and hounds but the main problem was the followers who had parked their tin boxes all over the narrow lane. Bit of wheel spin on the hill at The Mythe (rubber and stuff off the cars I think) and 8 magpies cackling in a tree. What is the collective noun for magpies?
All in all a good outing and another 34 smiles notched up ^_^

Mine was similar, but in the form of 2 x 20 mins on the turbo. Very dull, but at least I'm riding again. 2 weeks until the next physio visit and fingers crossed he'll let me outside on the bikes.....

Only a short ride this evening to a local National Trust place called Anglesey Abbey to see their Christmas lights. Just 5 miles round trip- probably just as well as the mulled wine was pretty strong. Couldn't persuade Mrs G to cycle there sadly, so met her and a friend there. Took a few pics...

These are smooth bark birch trees I think.

And some twisted Hazel.

Lode Mill and the stream with the poplars lit up...

Some folks juggling and hoola hooping in the dark. Looked great.

Really glad we went- a lovely festive atmosphere. A bucket of strong mulled wine always helps too! A nice slow wobble home- will have to put a few miles in over the weekend I reckon.

33 winter miles along some very muddy lanes, think the bike will need cleaning for the second day running
As always we went through the beautifully scenic Tatton park then did a loop through to Wilmslow and on to the cafe in Cheadle where we got invited to bring our bikes inside out of the cold
Good fun even if we did get a bit wet and muddy.
