52 miles today with three friends. Started from mine, with tea, coffee and carrot cake to boost the energy levels (?) before we got going..

And there's still some left for me for supper and breakfast

For a change, I routed us up to the Wolrd's End pub at Ecton, down a crackin' hill and the a mile long straight with the wind behind us. (Just as well really, as it goes past the local sewage farm so speed is of the essence!

There's a couple of Strava oddities on the route, as the one Cat 4 hill is not much of a problem but several of the other lumps do test the legs a bit. Still, such is life.
Just by way of a change, not, we stopped of at Salcey Forest for tea and coffee and a top up of cake.

Quick pit-stop to lighten the load a bit and then we split up near the town and went in different directions to get home. I had to add a loop onto the end of the ride to get my 50miles in.

The sun was shining and I only had one dog to walk today (Hubby took the car and headed off in the opposite direction to walk another one) so I rode from my end of Wymondham, through the town and then up to the Tuttles Lane and then headed left to Little Melton, from there I hooked a left and crossed the B1108 and up the hill to just go back down again into the village of Bawburgh.
From there, back up the other side, past Herbie Hyde's house and to the Dereham Road where I stopped, lifted the bike up the kerb and over the cobbles to the cycle path - that's a 60mph bit of road and not bloomin' wide enough for the impatient car drivers to give you any space. There should be a low bit to cycle up there but there isn't. However if I had gone round the roundabout and then gone down the up lane from Sainsburys - against the traffic - there is a low bit. Nice one Norwich City Council.
Down the cycle path to Longwater Lane and a beautiful downhill. I hit a pothole there and my bike squeaked  I am now wondering if a bit of air squeaked out of the tyre as I hit it as the wheel seems fine. From there left then right and up another bloody hill to Taverham, up some more and then doglegged across the Thorpe Marriott estate - more uphill until I reached my client's house. I didn't bother with a lock as I leave the bike in her kitchen.

14.6 miles and only 213 feet of climbing. I was staggered when I saw that on MMR, it felt like a lot more - definitely more than twice as much as my 11 mile loop with 108 feet of climbing that I barely feel.. Averaged 13.4mph so fairly happy with it.
I was going to ride to the city after but hubby met me there after the walk as the client had texted him to say that she had left him a choc chip muffin. The lure of cake never fails.

Didn't we ride down that hill on our first forum ride together, Dave?

I think we did a short section of it, we turned left out of Packington lane and did the bottom bit down to the corner where it turns sharp right, you picked me up at the end of that road.

One of the fastest commutes for a while last night even though it was a short one accross town; I had to give way to a bloke on a zebra crossing, cut through the cycle cut through/ aka carpark (blocked), and stop at the lights and mayors walk rbt. So it wouldn't have been very fast for the first mile, so I must of been flying on the fixie as it was 16.1mph by the tme I got to the rbt just outside the flat a mile later.

Then came the proper ride, I got changed fast as I was meeting folk at Elton Furze and again tail wind assisted I was 10 mins early (my clock said 19.3mph including the slow bit through a shared use area and through level crossing gates), we then met another mate and went on a magical mystery tour and by dark the speed had only fallen to 18.9mph and 18.4mph when I left them in the dark. I then ignored speed and let my average fall to 17.5mph by the time I was back in the flat; concentrated on not hitting the verge on unlit country lanes. Lol, the brightest setting on my new lights is on the first switch, whereas it was on the 2nd on my old lights.

I wondered where this thread had got too. it took me ten minutes to find the blumen' thing.

Yesterday. 25.6 round trip via the bank to pay some money in, taking in Brill hill which is getting easier to get up, but still take some doing, nice weather but a bit of a cross breeze most of the way round.

Today. 30 miles exactly on a round trip via the barbers to get me Barnet cut. then stopped off at a nice farm shop for a pot of Earl Grey tea and a Roast Beef sandwich and bought a pot of marrow and ginger marmalade. Grey day today but a nice ride.

After 52 miles yesterday, I felt like a short ride today to keep the legs moving.. Only 11.5 on my old Single Speed Tesco bike as I was popping into the local pool to see how 5 yr old granddaughter is getting on with her swimming lessons.
Back in time to tuck into the Shepherds Pie I made this morning :hungry:
