I had a great morning out in the Peak District on the racer today :-) There was a slight chill in the air when I set off but I was soon glad of it once I got into the ride. It was a bit breezy in places and I had a head wind all the way up the big climbs but the sun was out so i was happy :sun:

Back to the riding, I wanted to try and complete my first 50mile ride today but I failed...the route I picked turned out to be 48.6miles  but it was OK as it included a couple of climbs, well 3713ft of climbs actually ^_^

The route went from Sheffield out via Ecclesall Raod and up to Ringinglow, then down into Hathersage, through Hope and Castleton and up Winnats pass, up Mam Tor and then down into Edale. I stopped at the Penny Pot Cafe in Edale for a Tea Cake and Milkshake :hungry: Then back towards Hope, Hathersage, over to Owler Bar, Holmesfield and back to Sheffield.

Total time out was 3hrs 40min but that includes the 20+mins i was at the Cafe - total moving time was 3hrs 15mins giving an average speed of 15MPH ^_^

The only down side to the day was about 4 miles from home I was nearly knocked off my bike by a learner driver  ...she just pulled out on me at a roundabout, luckily I had slowed down and was covering the brakes just in case...I even made sure I gained eye contact with her and her driving instructor (something i always do to make sure the drivers have seen me)...she smiled and then tried to run me down  . When I came to a stop and put my foot on the ground the car just brushed my leg with the lightest of touches as it stopped...closest i've ever come from being knocked off...but no harm done and I think she was more shaken than I was, and I can't blame the Learner driver...Her instructor should haven't have let her pull out...so after signalling to the instructor that HE should be watching the road, I carried on my merry way home.

All in all, Its been a good week for cycling this week, In total I've managed to cover 110miles and climbed 7710ft in the past 6 days :bicycle:. Got a couple of KOMs for the first time and I've even manged to get the MTB out and set a new PB for a lap of Sherwood Pines Red Route :becool:

I can't help noticing how many near misses and actual collisions have been reported in the last couple of days. Anything to do with lots of people going back to work shortly I wonder?? I may stay off the road until all the nutters have settled into their routines again.

I think it's the sun that affects them somehow, they just seem to go around in a daze!

I went outside today, and it wasn't a race day................. what is the world coming too!

Went off over to Long Hill to recce the climb in preparation for next weeks Hill Climb time trial. Cycled out mostly a direct route then when I got to Disley took the lumpy backroad route into Whalley Bridge then climbed out of Whalley up Long Hill. Did 3 reps of Long hill at threshold (basically the power I can hold for an hour at a time) then came home the same way. Pretty gnarly climb out of Whalley Bridge behind the train station, especially after 3 reps of Long Hill, hah.

Feeling positive about next weeks race now though, did it in a time that would put my in the top 3rd of the last 3 years results for the same race, and that was with water bottles on my bike, riding out to the climb, repping it 3 times and saving some to ride home. Taking a train out, giving it one balls to the wall effort (should be able to average 360-370W for the race, was keeping myself at about 335-340 today), with my bike about 1.5 kg lighter and I should be putting in a competitive time!

Overall stats: 61.6 mile, ~4500 ft ascent, 17.4 mph Av speed, TSS: 246, Av power for reps of Long Hill = 337W per rep.

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
60 miles today including a 35 mile club ride . Bit cooler than of late and i wore a base layer for the first time in a few months. The club run bit was ok...im not big on all that 'car up' car down' shouting that goes on though...i was in the medium paced group and after the tea stop tried my luck with the fast group but got left for dead:laugh:....so i headed off on my own little ride...at my own pace:bicycle:...then back to numpty city ... the coastal strip for the usual game of dodge 'em cars ...only this time the grass verges and pubs were full of double parked wobbly people in creaking camping chairs eating as much as they could while staring at the sky trying to figure out the difference between a spitfire and a lancaster bomber:rolleyes:

my front mech needs attention....the chain rubs on the front derailer when on the four larger rear cogs...:headshake:

...tuna sandwich...cup of tea...garden....sunbed:thumbsup:

Mine was yesterday 23 to Otley again for two latte and a visit to Otley market. To top up on Twix bars three for a £.Those extra long ones so i got 2£'s worth. And a funny tale.I was sat enjoying the drink and sunshine. When a guy came past struggling with his shopping.A very large haversack on his back, one plastic bag in one hand over stuffed and in his other hand he had his vegetables, what i could see were the tops of four leeks. So as he passed me i shouted out sorry mate but your carrier bag is leaking.Well he stopped looked then the penny dropped,we had a funny exchange and he went on his way laughing.Well later he came back empty handed. It was then he set about my head with the flat of his hands. All in fun of couse.Again we parted company laughing.Silly old sods we were.

Ride home post night shift....the usual 17km route but with an added trail for fun. Couldn't help it as it was a stunning morning and the roads and trail were so quiet. I really enjoy cycling home on the weekend mornings....very quiet. Upon arrival home a knock on the door had the two kids running out to jump all over me before trying to escape outside.

A lovely 13 mile circuit of familiar territory (for me anyway!) here in the flat country. Sunny and warm (low 70s F) with a nice tailwind to help me along the first few miles at least.

There's a new rock festival near here (I think it started in 2011?) and it's been on this weekend. We could hear the music from the house a couple of miles or so away - it went on until well past 1am on Fri and last night, but I'm not quite old and grumpy enough yet to worry about that kind of thing. In fact I wish I had gone! The festival is called LodeStar and I passed the entrance along the way...

Then along some old tracks via the Lodes Way....

This track heads back towards Reach village...

It's one of those routes where you have to concentrate hard on the ruts so avoid an unplanned dismount. I've done it at night a few times while out looking for glow worms, and always come off- luckily its quite a soft landing.

I branched off the track to cross Tubney Fen and pop into the bird hide- not much about save a few yellow wagtails although a marsh harrier passed by in the distance.

Then I headed home along a track between Reach and Swaffham Prior. It's one of my favourites this, as it is free from cars and the associated muppetry that goes with them, it has a reasonable surface, it is always very quiet. It is also shorter than the alternative road route.

13 miles in a little over 2.5 hours - although I'm not worried about speed, I really need to start doing some longer rides. .
