Good cycling day yesterday .....

Little Spartak (4yo) who has been successfully been riding her Islabike for about 3 months now, managed the art of pushing off herself  .... no stopping her now.

Then later I took 15 seconds off my PB on our clubs Evening 10, despite being stung by a bee !!! A sporting course starting from Old Sodbury, passing thru Acton Turville & Badminton.

They hire all sorts of bikes here, including these I found in a shed

OT What Aero bars are you using they look like they might fit the flat profile ITM 'Wing Shape' Bars on my Bianchi?

Those are aluminium bars mate...el cheapo at £40 a couple of years ago in LBS...they have the logo 'profile design' on the side...more I cannot say. I have the bars that came with the bianchi on still...I think they are ITM...in anyevent they have a round cross section where the aero bars are fitted and a flat top cross section further 'out'

Cheers, I'll have a look around at Profile Design Tri Bars. That sounds similar to my ITM bars I've been having trouble to get Tri Bars that fit, those could be a solution

From Chard i headed out along the old railway stop line before turning off and heading up Hare Lane Hill to Holly bush park. The views over the Vaunton Vale are amazing. Down Blagdon hill (taking extra care at the 180 degree end before heading to Trull. Turning off and re crossing the M5 past Taunon Race Course and through Stoke St Mary before using the back lanes to Bickenhall and back to Chard.

Nice 34 miler with sunshine.

Been suffering from a serious case of post Lake District holiday blues and after 3 days back at the drudgery and Groundhog Day feeling of working in the NHS I needed to get back out on my bike this evening.

Therefore I headed out on one of my regular routes, heading out from Shrewsbury, through the dodgy Sundorne estate (which was brightened by a very cheery "hello mate" and wave from a young lad of about 7 years of age ) and then along the old canal path, to Uffington and Upton Magna. I then headed up Haughmond Hill and turned right to head down the lovely descent of the bank towards Withington and then back around to Upton Magna and the same return route to Uffington. I headed back onto the old canal path, expecting a leisurely ride home, only to round a bend and come face to face with 3 sheep that had escaped from the neighbouring field!!! A quick application of the brakes, on the gravel path, was enough to instigate a small skid, as the sheep bolted in different directions and then through the gap in the fence they had got through.........bit close that one!! I then had a trouble free last mile home!

What I had noticed on the ride was that 70 odd miles of cycling in the Lakes had seriously strengthened my legs up and so the hills on the route seemed a lot easier than before I went on holiday!

There were also a lot of people on bikes out, must have seen around 20 people, the majority of whom had a cheery hello to say to me .

The legs feel good and so I now want to up my mileage to a 30 miler, hopefully this Bank Holiday, if the weather will let me!

13.1 miles, top speed 30.9 mph, Avg Speed 11.6 mph

I seriously fancy a cycling holiday to France. Have bought the Lonely Planet book to start thinking of where to go

Shakedown ride, part 2.
I took the bar tape off and realigned the bars and shifters. Put the bar tape back on and away I went. Hubby sorted out the dodgy cable for me while I made cake.
We rode the same route as I took in the dark and wind and rain on Saturday except for taking in Park lane on the way home as well as at the beginning. Its a nice road and our road was a tad busier than usual for some reason. We stopped half way around as my right shifter seemed to be slightly off and pointing just to the right, it was enough to make my wrist start to ache anyway so we got that sorted. It needs a gear service as its a bit clicky but apart from that, a nice little 8.86 mile ride in 3 seconds shy of 40 minutes. I really enjoyed it but my legs feel tired and empty today. Tomorrow will be better though.

Barnet,
I met a work mate at Hatfield station and we did a tour of Lemsford, Sandridge, Smallford, St. Albans and back towards Hatfield, but did a detour towards Essendon and Wild Hill, culminating with a couple of pints at the Woodman public House. For those who may not know this pub, it is a small establishment in Wild Hill that sells excellent ale from local brewers, such as the Tring brewery. 35 miles in total.
