Just back from my hols in Orkney with some lovely warm (for Orkney) weather and generally light winds and lots of great cycling.

I took part in my first TT by Joining in the very friendly local 10 mile TT both weeks. There were folks on all kinds of bikes and all ages and abilities. Basically it was up the road for 5 miles turn round and come back again.
Fastest was a local guy on full TT bike with a seasons best 24.16. I managed 28.53. Second time out, the best was a guy down from Shetland with a low 26. 29 cyclists took part which is a local record for entry. I got a PB with 28.03. Not great in the grand scheme of things i know but TBH i was happy with anything sub 30 mins. The guys with tri bars (minority) were doing 26s.

Far too much like hard work - i think i'll retire now! Or will i get some tri bars and see if i can go lower next year?

Not strictly "todays" ride but i had no internet connection...

Lovely 40 mile ride to Newton Mearns, couple of well deserved lagers at Malletshuch and on to Rouken Glen then Paisley for lazy train ride home.

Went out yesterday with my cycling group for my first hilly ride in about a month and it ended up being my longest ride in quite a while - 76 miles all told. We went down to Axminster to sample the wares at the Hugh Fairly-Witless canteen and I have to say it turned out to be as over-priced and over-rated as everything else River Cottage. Made the mistake of not getting a side order of chips or bread and butter with my meal and was still ravenous after I'd eaten. Good thing I'd taken along a big bag of trail mix as I needed nearly all of it to keep me going. Ran out of water on the way back but luckily my route took me past a friend's front door so I stopped to refill my bottle and helped her empty the cake tin. :mrpig:

Other than the lunch disaster, the route was great - we headed out to Ilminster, took the cycle path down to Chard then hit the hills around Forde Abbey and Hawkchurch. Once we left Axminster, we looped round Membury and Stockland, which is where I left the group and made my own way home via Upottery and the Blackdowns. Only thing was, I'd forgotten how much climbing you have to do after Upottery and I was so tired that I barely noticed the descent down Blagdown Hill.

On the plus side, I feel pretty chirpy today and my legs are fine so maybe I'm not as unfit as I thought. Maybe...

20 mile flat ride to recover from the beasting I received at the hands of @potsy yesterday in the hills:whistle: . A fairly standard route through Ollerton, Knutsford, Tatton Park, Ashley and Mobberley. Gusting winds at times and showery clouds everywhere but I got back dry.
I picked up a wheel sucker, I had passed coming out of Tatton Park, from Seamons CC going down the Tatton Mile and through to Ashley, I don't mind but an aknowledgment they were there rather than seeing their wheel a couple of cms from my back wheel at 30 mph on the Tatton Mile would have been nice.

Medium pace club run
56.2 miles
17.5 mph average
Spent a fair bit of time stopping and helping a "newbie" who cramped up on a hill and fell off , i made sure he got to the cake stop by taking a shorter detour along with another rider .
After the cake stop he recovered a bit and we got hime close enough to home that he felt confident enough to get there solo .
1st club run for me in over 2 months and i have found the perfect way to avoid my hand tingling problem , ride no handed

TBH i should have gone with the fast group but i do not have the long rides in my legs so i thought i would test the waters.

A mostly enjoyable club run. We came across some stereo typical drivers though  On a narrow country lane we started to single out for an approaching 4x4, they just ploughed down the middle at speed  The bloke in front managed to avoid its wing mirror just but veered up the bank an onto the tarmac. He might have recovered that but the 4x4 was immediately followed by a BMW@nker, it also passed close and fast causing him to veer back into the verge and down he went
The ride/ banter fortunately improved after that :becool:
Near the turning point of the ride the leader decided to go back a shorter route with a couple of young lads that were starting to feel the pace, chapeau to them. He also decided that as I was looking strong and had a GPS, I should go on with the superfast two in front. 5-10miles later I was also feeling the pace and for 5mins I'd be doing circa 15mph. Fortunately, I recovered or the last 40miles to town would have been a nightmare but instead they were really enjoyable
After the manic blast back, we came through Orton Mere and watched a bit of the rowing regatta
I think tomorrow will be a rest day
