I'm also having sleep problems (related to breathing problems) so I am not exactly bursting with life but I couldn't waste a sunny day like today. I decided to do a short ride but take in a nice hill that I haven't been able to do for 11 months.
I cycled up the Keighley Road in a very low gear so as not to strain my frail heart & lungs, then turned right at Pecket Well and continued through Old Town to Height Road.
I discovered that some conifers have grown in places along the road to Midgley since I last managed to get up there!
I thought some of you flatlanders might like to see a nice Yorkshire climb so I stopped to take a picture looking down Midgley Road. I suspect that it will be at least 2014 before I am well enough able to tackle that beast again!
I decided to tour the top of Luddenden Dean, which is one of my favourite local valleys. It was looking lovely in the sunshine ...
But the damn traffic was doing my head in - I must have seen at least
2 cars on that part of the ride!
I turned down Jerusalem Lane rather than taking the bridleway round to the other side of the valley. There is a steep climb to be tackled if that route is taken, and I am not up to it at the moment.
From Jerusalem Lane, through Booth, past the renovated Oats Royd Mill, and a quick descent of Solomon Hill and down to the busy A646 at Luddenden Foot. I didn't fancy the Sunday traffic so, I crossed the road and returned to Hebden Bridge on the Calder Valley Cycleway instead. There is a section through woods to Mytholmroyd station which gets very muddy after rain, but it has been dry for weeks so it was okay on my road bike today.
Here's a section near Brearley ...
I came back into Hebden Bridge via Calder Holmes park. It was a 13 miler with a bit of climbing in the first half and a very easy return leg.
When the weather is like this, and the valleys are so lush, I forget the grim grey winters and remember why I moved here in the first place!
