Chilly 18 mile to work this AM, with a stronger wind than expected.

Today was day 5 of riding in Cyprus. The loop took me from Iskelle west along the plain and then up and over the mountain...the the clim up here wasn't to bad, it's an escarpment and this was the gentle gradiant..which meant that the downhill was unbelievably amazing...steep fast, last on perfect road surface with zero traffic! Took a left towards Kyrinea Then back along the other side of the mountain range east and made a right turn to head up to Kantara (this time from the other side). Holy sh*t this is one hell of a climb. The first 500m are just a direct straight road UP through a village before the switchbacks start. The climb took me about an hour of hard struggle up out of the saddle for much of it. The views are stunning, th eroad surface is perfect. At the top I took a breather and a pepsi in the café, before riding along the ridge again. This ride is definatly my favourite ever, anywhere. Road along the top and filmed it all on hedcam. Then the descent back down into iskelle, another totally perfect exhilarating downhill. I'm trying to get the vid on youtube but the wifit here is touch and go to say the least and the vid is big.

Hot hot hot, blue sky, less wind than recently, hardly any traffic at all, the bike ran well, and even tolerated the excessive strain on the climbs without to much creaking in agony.

Seriously, if anyone wants to experience great climbs, superb downhills, open roads, great surfaces then ride this loop. Not all roads out here are so good however, but this one is just the mutts nutts.

Whilst maybe not up to the sublime level of BigonaBianchi it was extremely nice today. Just a gentle NE breeze, sunny, not too hot (I guess 11-12 degrees). Managed 48 miles and 5,500ft climbing including the two local muthas...Holme Moss and Wessenden Head.

Cunningly though, they both run NE-->SW so what little breeze was helping me. The only downside was that they both came in the last 15 miles so had to measure my effort earlier (Glossop-Stalybridge-Delph-Slaithwaite)

The descent into Slaithwaite (Clough Road?) was a bit scary...wouldn't fancy riding up that

Just a short ride today, a loop into Shrewsbury and through the Quarry.

It was:sun: and the wind has dropped but it still isn't exactly warm out there. Despite that there were more people out enjoying the sunshine than yesterday .

I was struggling to get on with the saddle again this trip. I've tried another adjustment so we'll see how that goes.

Today's distance was 11.1 miles at a slightly disappointing 12.4mph average. Still haven't quite recovered yet.

The 'autopilot to mum's' journey today again. Started out, cold & cloudy and whilst it brightened at intervals, it was sill cold & cloudy for most of the day, except at lunchtime. not entirely sure what was going on on the roads this morning, even had a lorry stop and let me turn righta cross his path and only the one "shoot they are going to hit each other" overtake on the way out. Spotted some bluebells (spanish variety) coming into flower (loswest 2 flowers fully open on 30-50 stems) under a railway bridge and noticed that the steam roller I cycle passed each way is back under wraps. teaching mum & step-father how to right click a mouse button to find the bits they want was somewhat more interesting.... then it was helping with the gardening & generally lifting & shifting before heading home again. The way home was somewhat more of the usual mad approach to driving with one or two nice exceptions, at least it was not as confusing as this mornings ride/commute to my parents. 41 miles in a little over 3 hrs and later tonight a few more miles (13miles) to pilates and back. already exhausted and think I may have to give up the ghost and make that dr's apt, my asthma is playing up too badly now and I am seriously tired.

I thought it was a bit chilly today, went East from home & joined the TPT at Pollington South to Bentley, I had planned to go down to Spotbrough before heading for home but I looked down & the pump was missing, I thought I never heard it drop off, then I realized I never picked it up from the garage when I left home, so I thought it wise to head home, saw a lovely brood of ducklings on the New Junction Canal.
Health & Safety have spoilt the crossing of the East Coast Main Line by locking the pedestrian gates shut, your at the mercy of the gate keeper who has to allow enough time to open two gates & get the traffic through & shut the gates before the next 125 passes, I could have been across & 3 mile up the road today before the train came.

Mad thing happened to me today with another rider. I had just begun the climb up a steep incline rising above a ford and encountered a rider ahead of me, static and looking down at something troubling him on his front wheel. Out of common courtesy, as we do, I asked him if he had any trouble, hoping he'd wave me on and not having to stop or it would have probably meant turning round myself and going back down to the ford in order to clip in. He told me to go forth and multiply in no uncertain terms! I got what had happened; I panted out 'any trouble?' and I can only assume he thought I'd said 'do you want some trouble?' as we cyclists are renowned for saying to each other, obviously! Maaaad encounter, that was.

No commute for me today, as was working from home, so made up for it afterwards with a ride.......................to the pub!

Quite chilly so wore a few layers including my trusty CC top. I thought I'd need to lose some of them after a mile or two but no- still too cold for that. My destination, a riverside pub near Cambridge (16 mile round trip) in a place call Fern Britton, no hang on a mo, Fen Ditton, yes that was the place - always get those two mixed up.
Met up with a pal there from Cambridge and by then it was warm enough in the sun to sit out by the river and admire the ..ahem...scenery...

Why these gorgeous girls didn't jump out and join us two slightly portly, middle aged blokes supping pints is anyone's guess- perhaps they didn't see us?

Wobbling heading home, I took a quiet route along an old railway line (one that used to link Cambridge with Mildenhall). It had been mullered by sugar beet harvesters all winter and pretty cut up, but it's dried out nicely and was a pleasure to ride along.

A bit further along is a nice woodland where you often see buzzards hovering. This is an area close to Angelsea Abbey in a village called Lode. The beech trees are just coming into leaf and look stunning, especially against a blue sky.

Getting pretty chilly by now, particularly with a strong headwind keeping me at or below 10 mph. Lager probably doesn't help either! I had developed a slow p*nct**e on the way home (front wheel thankfully), my first I reckon in 10,000 miles or so- can't complain really I guess.
