Old Plodder

Living at the top of a steep 2 mile climb
I have just been for a 21:48 mile bike ride. I have, according to my HRM burned 1589 calories, I am cold and I got another puncture 2 miles from home. This weather is becoming something up with which I am finding it very difficult to put.

I'm gonna eat cake now.

The End.

Edit: Just discovered this
Glad you found the split once you were back home.

Went out for a spin along part of one of my favourite routes and finally got the better of the hill that's been laughing at me for weeks and weeks. :wahhey: Saw lots of ewes and their :hyper: lambs, buzzards a-plenty, alpacas, horses, donkeys, cattle and nearly got up close and personal with a hedge as I was too busy admiring a sparrowhawk to notice things like corners.

Nipped to the shop to pick some wall paper paste.

25 miles, 3 bike shops and Halfords, 1 punctured tub and a lovely little ride.
Went out to 1st shop/boutique as I had put cycle hire into the computer and their name had come up, no they didn't hire out bikes, I explained that I might be wanting to buy a new one depending on what they rode like and showed them my bike Got an 'oh dear you still ride that?' sort of look but still helpful enough. I think I want to try a modern bike but won't be spending any real dosh til I have given them a go in case there is no real benefit from my my 30 year old Saracen (renting one on holiday in July but can't wait). Out into the sticks and ooh lovely a slick of farm slurry over the road and all over my brand new jersey!!!. I thought I might look into Halfords as I was passing a total of 4 road bikes in and none of them attractive, near home I got a rear puncture from a pot hole on a roundabout, so after changing tubs went into the big national chain that was only 150 yards away to purchase a tub repair kit after being pointed into the wrong direction I was then told by the assistant he thought tubs were disposable as he didn't know you could repair them? On to my LBS (second home) and ordered a repair kit round to Homebase picked up the wallpaper paste, and home.

cheers for reading another episode of my mundane little life:rolleyes:

set up
quick test pootle (my first ever fixie so that was interesting!), stopped to readjust seat.
rear hub slipping, so popped into LBS to see if I could get a lockring spanner (or perhaps let them do it and order one in for me), where they suggested I use a screw driver and a hammer* (don't think I'll be going in there for any fettling)

got home, ordered one from Evans

*maybe they were trying to be helpful

Today I rode the equivalent of about 1 km at 12 km/hr or let's call it 0.5 miles at 6 mph. The numbers don't really matter, and the views were crap - a load of old bikes and my recycling boxes - but it was simply the best ride that I've done for months ...
Glad you've started turning pedals again, good luck with the come back.

Found a local 50 mile looping ride with GPX file on the Macc Wheelers website. Although I did not have time to finish it today I did the first 30 miles to test out the SatMap. It was a lovely ride in the sun albeit cold. The SatMap performed well but I need to tweak the display settings for best contrast while cycling. It all bodes well for some more ambitious "fast touring" if the weather ever warms up.

Thanks to the Macc Wheelers for making their cycling resources available online:highfive:

24 mile shake down ride, new bike, was good to get out after a two week break, a couple of minor adjustments will get done this afternoon, ready for a 40 miler saturday morning, bright sunshine this morning not cold at all, lets hope it stays the same for the whole bank holiday weekend.^_^
