Had to cut short my extended commute this morning, Li-on battery went flat on my front light. Had to rig up a temporary battery pack at work for this evening. Lovely weather...not cold, no wind to speak of, even managed most of my commute home without lights anyway...a sure sign winter is slipping past.

Only about 11 or 12 miles today...off tomorrow, so hope to get more in than last weeks 60 miler. Weather looks good...

71 miles...so i did extend on last weeks ride.
Bianchi's in the wars at the moment, so i used the Raleigh Clubman i usually reserve for commuting. First problem, the Clubman hasn't got Keo pedals on so i had to ride with normal boots. Not the end of the world, but its not the same not being clipped in on a long ride.
Usual route towards Corby, via my usual cafe, eggs and beans on toast, then Lucozade and mars bar at Weldon, then tea and victoria sandwich cake at Oundle...its not cheap this cycling, cost me £8 just for cake stops.

Slight detour to another village on the way back to extend the mileage a bit, then punctured about 4 miles from Peterborough...the first puncture ive had in a long while. Spare tube fitted, and blimey, winter commuting has put a lot of slits in the rubber...but that means the puncture resistance has done its work.

Had a lovely opportunity to get a photo of Fotheringhay church, dark ominous clouds behind it, but the church itself was brilliantly illuminated with sunlight...made it really stand out. Sadly, by the time i got my camera out...the sun had gone in.

6 Red Kite...don't really know why i bother mentioning them...its such a regular sighting now.

One thing occured to me while riding...Shimano tiagra wheelset i fitted maybe 2 years ago, budget wheels but bugger i was flying at times. They certainly are good wheels at that price point. They freewheel very nicely.

Coming into Laxton, there's an 11% downhill, 30 mph plus and i'm braking slightly because its got swooping bends...the bike was shimmying at times, a bit disconcerting. Dont get that on the Bianchi.

Excellent ride, 10mph winds outbound, couple of spots of rain, bit overcast at times, but almost like a spring ride.

I have to collect a prescription from the doctor's surgery once a month and usually cycle there as it's a nice 7.5 mile blast, then around 8 miles back by a different route. Got the fake Colnago out of the shed, rode a couple of hundred yards when there's a crack and the front Crud Roadracer disintegrates just behind the brake mount. Why, I have no idea. Back home to take the remnants off, don't need it as the road is relatively dry and although there are some clouds they aren't threatening...........Wrong, wrong, wrong!

About three miles out it starts to come down in bloody great lumps and me with no waterproof. However, the Aldi jacket does a surprisingly good job of keeping the worst out but my legs are treated to all the front wheel can throw at them. Good job I got the neoprene booties on to keep my feet dry. Rain stops as I arrive at the surgery, collect my prescription, quick phone call to a client, off we go and I get quarter of a mile up the road before the sky gives a repeat performance, finally ceasing just as I arrive home. Good exercise but not much fun - roll on spring!

Total of 16 miles commuting today, my usual town loops during rush hour..love it.
Bianchi's back on the road and running well, given a good deep clean at work then blitzed several miles at 20mph ish on the way home...tailwaind assistance of course. Quite funny to see cars trying to inch past slowly in moderately dense traffic, but failing because i was going too fast for them

Quick 16 miles casing out the route Tincaman may take.
Nice quiet roads, not windy, not too cold, a nice ride. Saw a Jay, not an uncommon bird, but on you'll not see often. he was just flitting along a stretch of trees in the middle of nowhere.
Nice chat for a mile or so with another guy, who was funnily enough casing out a route for commuting to the same destination Tincamans starting out from.

Circa 120 miles on the bike this week...shame i'm not off this coming Tuesday, so next weeks mileage will be considerably lower.
Still, a good week in the saddle

Eighteen miles on a loop taking in Leeds City Centre, Granary Wharfe the tow path to Horsforth and then the ring road back to Meanwood. Managed to do it at Audax pace which surprised me since I 've only ridden twice since November.

22 miles around Midlothian via Carrington and Temple and Gladhouse Reservoir. Very cold though. Dank is the word which best describes it. I've been out in far colder this winter, but there's something about dampness in the atmosphere that sinks into your lungs.

Rode to the local station for Train to London.....
Bob Hope and No Hope !!!!!!

Engineering works and Bus Replacement Service so no bikes today......
Changed to a 20 mile pootle around the lanes then had to head to London by Car..!!!!!
