Managed two rides yesterday not that I planned two. First one at 7am before work so did a quick 19K round the Ranches and Studio city. Nice sun rise and temp wasn't too bad averaged 21o/c (that's cool for us thin blooded souls). After getting back home to shower and see England get two more wkts then off to work I got email saying sons rugby training was back on after Xmas break. Ah ha enough time for another ride so did five laps of the Sevens grounds so another 31K for the day. I'd slobbed it a bit over Xmas and New year so good to get shot of the cobwebs and excess lbs.

Just a quick slightly sub 10 miler to try out some different gloves.
Ive spent more on gloves this year than ever before...and my fingers are stiill getting cold. Around +2 degrees, trying some leather lined ex military gloves. Nice n supple, still got cold fingers with liners, nitrile gloves to stop the wind and the leathers.
I've got to stop mucking about and either spend some serious money or get some of those heated gloves with a battery.

Little bit blowy, not too much traffic....nice steady ride otherwise.

Barnet,
It felt good to get out on the bike after a 3 week lay off. Only did a hilly 10 miles, but it was enough to get the legs working again.

First ever cycle commute today, on my brand new SS as well. It felt good to arrive at work with the heart pumping and the brain engaged.

Even better was the fact that I got home a couple of minutes earlier than I usually would in the car having drifted past all the traffic queued at all the traffic lights..

So that's my first £2 of petrol saved, it won't be many months before I've paid for the bike.

Just the normal, albeit short commute today, no time to extend it as normal due to a very early start. But quite pleased with this weeks mileage considering i have an aversion to cold weather.
Just short of 90 miles in 6 days, around 55 miles of that commuting, or average 15 miles per day total. Nothing huge but i reallly struggle to get myself out in the winter. Commutings a must, so extending it gets me some extra mileage without psyching myself up to go out in the evenings or weekends
.
Oh and the weathers been so good (compared with 2 weeks ago) the Bianchis out. Mind, i got a wet backside twice this week. hey ho..

First ride out today since 23 December, been laid-up with flu all over Christmas. Feel much better now but still lacking energy and can fall asleep ap the drop of a hat!

Did 27 mile on my cross bike, mainly allong the Kennet Canal from Reading out towards Thatcham and averaged 13MPH which i suppose is OK given it's the first ride for over two weeks.

Hoping this first ride of the new year will give me a kick start and get me back on the bike and back to feeling normal again

odd bike ride - turned back at houghton on the hill at 9am ish due to the road to ingarsby being very icy, cycling back saw a car swerve left right and left again ending up in a ditch some 100m in front of me. driver fine, waited with her until the aa turned up (helpiing her tell the aa where she was!) - the aa did a rather amazing job getting her car out - and she could still drive it! By then the ice had melted so I could continue on the route I was intending on going on earlier managed 85km out to Rutland. Could have been much worse if her car turned over, and I guess if I was 100m further along that road. Nice to be back but my left foot is freezing...

52 fixed wheel miles this morning, out to the Market Bosworth battlefield café with the club, got up late, started out on my own and met up with the clubs veteran group at Monks Kirby, they were only two strong. http://www.coventryroadclub.org.uk/ beautiful sun shiny morning, could have done without the hoar frost and the ice it concealed though, found myself chasing the back of the bike across the road several times.

53 miles in very blustery conditions (10 mph winds gusting at 25mph +), so a relatively leisurely headwind 28 mile section that saw me at 10 to 13 mph at times, no point trying to beat the wind. 7 miles in, approaching a T junction where i had right of way, i actually got 'touched' by a car who either didnt see me or thought i was going straight on. He came straight at me albeit thankfully at slow speed, i looked down to see his front bumper pushing my foot and crank. Held it together, mouthed FFS at the driver who apologised. Ah well, a nod and and a bit of a wry look at him...no harm done. First time in my 52 years i've actually been 'hit' by a car.
Breakfast a few miles further on, then on towards Corby, various villages then took a wrong turn and thought NOOOOO, the winds changed and i'm going to have it in my face all the way back. But it wasnt so, my brain was telling me i was travelling in a direction i wasnt.
Lovely tailwind section home but did'nt quite gave the vim in the last 5 miles...not bonking tired, but just eased off to a steady pace.
5 Red Kite, nothing else worth mentioning...good to get some decent miles in in the winter...i struggle in the cold.
