17 mile hill climbing loop (1100 feet of pain), the wind was a bit blustery and had a cold bite to it. Enjoyed the spin just wish I was a great deal less lardy

Looked nice out there, unfortunately I was stuck at work . It was quite windy out there, I went to pick up a large toy for my nephews 2nd and it was about 2 inches too big for the pannier and instead made a good sale luckily the wind was behind me when I was carrying that.

Did a ride to Tiptree to meet a chap off t'internet who was riding from Chelmsford to Southwold via Tiptree and Manningtree. It was a 15 mile ride to Tiptree so giving myself an hour and a half was loads of time... except the shocking headwind slowed me down to an embarrassing 11mph average (well, it was a little hilly too, plus I had to go through Colchester just after rush hour).

Met the chap and off we set back the way I had come. The quiet country lanes meant we could cycle side by side and chat. I left him behind on the downhills, he passed me on the uphills, it was clear that I was slowing him down overall but he didn't say anything.

I took him on the scenic route from Colchester to Manningtree, down the quiet single track lanes, and we didn't see a single car for four miles. I waved goodbye to him at the Essex/Suffolk border and went to the Co-op to buy some hot cross buns.

The tailwind on the way from Tiptree to Manningtree helped a great deal with my overall average speed, but I am certainly improving my max speed. Take a look!

I cycled from my kids' house in Hackney, home to Brighton yesterday in glorious weather, a pub lunch and a very satisfying 73 miles. (That includes an unplanned extra 5 as I'd left my mobile behind)

In one of those 'will I, won't I' moods when I got in from work, not a good day. Got out the road bike and ambled out on my Thursday route, light winds from the south felt quite good after about 5 miles or so. 5 to 15 brisk, them bang, nowt, nothing left so I 'warmed down' for the last 7 miles. Average was up again so that's good, but hills are still killing me .

Hey ho, more hills for me.

Did not fancy doing my ride today as it has two hills which beat me everytime so preferred a flatish route, but I thought of "Armstrongs" words of motivation "........If i quit, however, it will last forever" so I decided to see if I could crack these two hills. The first hill, which comes out of the middle of Thixendale I got up for the first time ever without stopping. Felt I had been punched in the solar plexus when I got to the top as I could not breath fast enough and took about 6 miles to recover.

The second hill, Nunburnholme hill heading South I stopped with 50 meters to go, just as my lungs were about to burst, but that was a vast improvement as I normally have to stop 2 or 3 times so overall it was a sucess.

Overall 48 miles in 3hrs 18min, 14.6mph average, and max heart rate 198, maybe a record for me on that route but not yet time to check.

Perhaps my bike, Trek 1.2 is not designed for such hills , 53/39 chain rings to a 12-26 cassette, or perhaps I should try shedding more weightas I seem to be stuck on 16 stone.

Lessons learned today:-
Always wash the outside of your water bottle if you spill any powder or liquid from an energy drink before putting it in the holder, I was unable to pull my second bottle out without a struggle as it had dried and was firmly "glued" into the holder.

Today I mixed my energy drinks by putting a couple of inches of water in the bottle then tipped the powder in and shook before topping up for a trial, it instantly disolved as opposed to being stuck in the bottom of the bottle if you add water onto the top of dry powder and taking ages to disolve which is what I have normally done. A success.

I did 54 miles with the 2nd fastest club group (9.40) and it was great the weather so nice I wish they'd went further though but not at that suicidal pace. Tomorrows forecast is to be good too but I think I'll take the day off the bike and prep it for a trip to the Trossachs on Monday.

Just over 45 miles with the club; Garstang, Scorton, a bit of a climb, then dropping back down to Galgate, round Glasson dock then back home to Preston, via a tea stop in Garstang. Lovely ride, perfect weather, spring is sprung etc :-)

35 miles around Poole bay via Sandford, corfe,Langton Matravers straight to swanage then to studland[golf course] and home Canford cliffs.

Going thru the motions today

Could have tried a little harder if i,m honest but enjoyed myself none the less

62 miles with a 36 mile club APR thrown in for good measure. Good to to be in a big group (20+) with everybody working by doing the through and off bit. Scratch group still caught us with about 10 miles to go:sad: Nice cafe stop in Strathaven before heading back home. Weather was really good, sunny and hardly a breath of wind

62.74 miles in all, setting off from Harrogate this morning out over the moors to Skipton then a nice cafe stop and a full breakfast  on the way back just before Addingham then back through Addingham, ilkley, Otley up onto Askwith moor over to Fewston then over by Menwith Hill and down through Birswith and Hampswaite then home to Harrogate.

My body wanted to keep going to 100 miles but the mind was letting me down.

The weather was roasting hot all day
