Well for once the Met office were correct, and it was nothing but :rain::rain::rain: here, so opted to dog walk and hunt pine cones for table centres I'm making with the Cub pack in time for the Christmas Fair. The sofa was my territory from 12 - 3 for the F1 showdown, and by the time that finished the weather was looking a bit better so I togged up and headed out at about 4. Wanted to test the new front light (Solarstorm X2) so headed out into the darkness of Chobham/Foxhills/Lyne. Pleased to report it's really quite good, but the glare from the gear cables needs sorting, they're white so I'll wrap them in black insulation tape and see if it helps. Lots of local flooding on the roads, but my 'Dry Ass' rear mudguard type thing worked well, only got wet feet and shins.
18 miles for me tonight, starting to like this night time riding

Another gentle ride for me this morning.
Left the house at 10 o'clock with thermometer reading 2 degrees !

Rode along the cycle paths of Emersons before joining the Railway path at Mangotsfield station then continued to Warmley waiting room Cafe for a warming Latte. Didn't need to use their 'Who Loo' !!!

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
Finally it stopped raining, I stopped complaining, and set off on a familier loop out of Mordor (Worthing) >Shoreham> Steyning> Storrington> Houghton Hill> Arundel> Ford>Littlehampton>Mordor

I was COLD, having been spoilt out in Cyprus for 2 months. Th etraffic levels here are excessive and I had one very near miss at the hands of oneof Mordors Murderous Maniac drivers who clearly felt it funny to pass so close on a roundabout he touched my arm with his wing mirror. If anybody ever feels like riding on Worthing my strongest advice is DONT. Life is to short and valuable to be bothered with such an irrelevant pathetic little urban carbunkle. The rest of this loop is great however.

I saw a field full of swans...funny looking sheep I thought!

Mudguard repaired bodged up again, went for one of my 19 mile regular jaunts North of Ipswich. The layers are becoming necessary, but the sun made it worthwhile. A cheery wave and hello in Grundisburgh to two passing roadies as I paused to administer en eye-drop elicited only a pause in their conversation. I thanked them and promptly forgot them until now.

A pic of overflowing pond near Clopton that I'd be interested in investigating if I still enjoyed fishing.

And the browns of Autumn continue at Clopton, itself.

And I've always enjoyed this view in Playford. (And these are sheep, not swans.)

I'll need to push it a little if I'm to achieve 5000 miles for the year, but I think it's within my grasp - mudguards permitting.

I am very envious that everyone is getting out on their bikes. What with new job, grotty weather, still sorting the flat out and an ill husband, it's not been happening for me lately. First ride today for 10 days and it was bloomin' glorious.

I went to meet Hubster from dialysis. The sun was shining, birds singing, frost frosting. I took the Giant and knew I had about 40 minutes to get to the hospital. I'd have left earlier but I'm building a database for my shiny new boss person . Shouldn't laugh, but he really should have started this DB 4 years ago when he opened for business!

Anway. I rode to the end of our road and turned right instead of my usual left. I rode along the cyclepaths of Bowthorpe and very nearly fell off getting through one of the cycling/pedestrian gate things that are designed to stop motorbikes. Boy were those leaves slippery. Nobody saw  so that was OK then. I headed up Chapel Break and made a reasonably decent job of it. I didn't get overtaken by a 90 year old on a MTB BSO, as has happened in the past after I fluffed my gears right up.

From there I headed off to Bawburgh, which means going down under the A47 on a bit of single track road. The oncoming traffic has right of way but there was nothing coming so down I went, as I got to the very bottom a white van appeared and did manage to stop. He did tell me that the right of way was his. I mentioned that I was already at the bottom on the hill when he arrived and couldn't really be expected to turn around and go back to wait at the top, when he wasn't there when I started down. I was very polite, he was very much a bloke in a van. Probably swearing about me as I type.

Into Bawburgh and straight back up and out again, up Stocks Hill. I got up in one hit, which was really brilliant :dance:especially as I was on the Defy, not the PX. From there I rode along the B1108/Earlham Road to the hospital. Once there I realised that I was dead early so carried on up Colney Lane, into Eaton and down the cycleway and then back to the hospital via Round Well Road. Nice wee ride.
8.54 miles in a very slow 41:25. I am not desperately fit at the moment and it shows.

I need to do another 144 miles to hit my annual target so I need to get riding and I could do with a bit of nice weather too.

Feeling a bit delicate 1st thing, due to the Beer consumed at the James Blunt Concert and the Birmingham Xmas Market, there was only 1 thing for it on a gorgeous Sunny but Frosty morning, a long bike ride to clear the head!! Full Winter gear for the 1st time, including Leggings, Overshoes, 4 layers, Thermal Skull Cap and Full finger gloves (They were all needed as it was damn cold out!) only 2 Celsius when I set out and there was plenty of frost on the ground, so I took it gently to start with, assessing how much Ice was around, but apart from a few patches that the sun hadn't yet got to, it was fine. I also knew there were plenty of hills to come on this ride, which would warm me up a bit.

I headed to Upton Magna, through Upton Forge, Wroxeter, Cressage and up onto Cound Moor, where there was the distant sound of Shotgun Fire in the nearby woods, closely followed by the Honking from tonnes of Geese who were scarpering quickly in V formations. Quite a sight actually.

I then began the climbing (850 ft or so in 6 miles) firstly up to Kenley, and half way up the steep bank my Left Knee started to hurt on the inside. Just what I needed with lots of hills to tackle. I paused at the top of the bank and had a bite to eat and flexed the knee a bit, hoping it would pass as the ride went on........it didn't.

I continued the climbing up to Church Preen and the Knee was really hurting now, fine when just pedalling on flat bits, but as soon as I put any weight through it on the pedal stroke, it was hurting .

I love South Shropshire, especially on a perfect cycling day like today

There was more climbing up to Chatwall and then up to the junction where I turned towards Lawley Village and finally some nice downhill bits, but a few short sharp steep climbs up the side of Lawley Hill. I then dropped down to Longnor and some flatter ground to Ryton and Stapleton, where I spent half an hour with Dad, having some lunch, warming up a bit and ordering a new Vacuum Cleaner in the Argos sale, for my new house! I also hoped the rest would do the Knee good......it didn't, as it was worse after I set off back home. It crossed my mind to go back to Dad's and ask him to run me home, but I knew that there wasn't too much climbing on the way home that I was planning and so persevered.

I took in Condover and then instead of the usual route home through Atcham, I turned left towards Betton Abbots and a route I will have to get used to fairly soon, as it will be my way back to my new house. The only bit of a problem is that it involves a short section on the horrid A458 and passing a major Flyover junction with the A5, but I got an acceptable level of room from the traffic and headed past the development to check on progress with the house. It is now up to the top of the upper window, getting there slowly.

I then followed the cycle path past Shrewsbury Town FC and on towards home.

This was the 1st proper ride using my new saddle and whilst it will take a bit of getting used to, it was a lot better than my previous one. The TI's hurt a little bit, but there was no numbness at all, which was the problem with the previous one. I like it ! Just hope the knee pain is not due to the new saddle positioning!
