.....I refer you to the answer I gave Mort in another thread.....

(No )
I had given him the same answer as well...

but it is lovely weather today and sadly I am not out cycling in it... have had a dog walk and having now exhausted him I am back to learning my Spanish or trying to at least!

The BBC weather forecast for today was a bit pants with lots of rainclouds and raindrops. However, there seemed to be a gap in the weather at about the time I meet Hubster from dialysis. As it turned out, no rain so far so I was worrying about nothing.
I rode down our road and off towards Earlham Five Ways - not on the leaf strewn cycle path, but on the road - over the roundabout and along Bluebell Lane. I still didn't go on the cycle path as its a bit slippy down there, as I discovered last week. Once as the Eaton traffic lights I decided to go straight on as I wondered where it went. I normally head off to the right as that is the direction that I used to live in.
I noticed that there was a sign saying that it was a dead end except for bicycles, I thought that this sounded promising so I rode down the road, saw the cyclepath off to the right on a left hand bend and followed it. I was careful as I went along, wet leaves galore as is about normal at this time of year. As I was making my way up the hill, I saw a couple of older gents walking their dogs and slowed right down as they were off lead but very well behaved. I asked where the path came out, the men told me that the path came out on Ipswich Road. I thanked them and tried to pedal off but slipped on the wet leaves and fell off at a whopping 3mph  Not embarrassing at all. The men asked if I was OK, I was, and we had a nice wee chat about modern bikes, then I pushed the bike until the wet leaves stopped and I had some proper tarmac to ride (and get some purchase) on, and off I went again.
At the end of the path, I could see the Holiday Inn on Ipswich Road so went to the right for a wee while before turning right again towards Keswick (The Norfolk one, not the Lake District one), past the road to Keswick Hall and on to Cringleford where I came out on the slip road to the A11 so hopped on the cyclepath to the crossing and crossed, which brought me to the Roundwell roundabout and then I just rode along Roundwell Road to the hospital, which is my normal last couple of miles to the hospital.

It was a nice ride, despite falling off like a right doofus. I'll get the Giant Defy back out now that the weather has turned.
8.4 miles in 38 minutes. 13.1mph average but I was not in a hurry and was just enjoying the ride.

And sunny in deepest Cheshire as well today folks.

My OH, Chrissie's had her new, first road bike for a few weeks now. She already has a Giant hybrid she's had for yonks and is very happy on, but envied my Cube road bike. She's bin quite nervous on it up to now. I had to fit spacers so she could reach the brakes (no thanks to the LBS who failed to do a final fit cos she wanted flat pedals!) and stick some prompts on the hoods so she could tell which way the indicator was moving i.e. up or down.

I've left her to pootle about round the village for the last few weeks but yesterday she said she fancied a proper ride somewhere flat; Cheshire. It's v.hilly hereabouts. So we loaded the bikes on to the back of our Scooby Do and set off for Knutsford. We had a lovely, gentle, level ride through Tatton Park; actually no we didn't - it's closed today, then round the lanes towards Mobberley.

The first smiley pic was taken on the way, moments before Chrissie had a puncture in her "puncture resistant" Schwalbe Lugano! Never mind; I fixed it with a patch (ages since I've done one) then we were on the way again ... for five minutes, before I got a flippin' puncture in my "puncture resistant" Schawlbe Ultremo. Bu**er! This time I just stuck a new tube in.

We both set off again ... waiting for the next one. But it never came and we found a bench outside the church in Mobberley for lunch.

Then we carried on our merry way back towards Knutsford. A nice, relaxing ride.

So, Chrissie's first proper ride out on a road bike and her verdict? For the first hour, she was contemplating selling her lovely new Cube Axial, so disconcerted was she with the handling and position. However, during the second hour, she changed her mind completely, finding herself really enjoying the ease of pedaling a lightweight road bike, but the last half hour or so brought the dreaded sore bum. Never mind, hopefully, with more practice, she'll get accustomed to the seat (she'd already changed it for a more comfy Specialized item). I reckon she did really well, 'specially with the unusual, for her, STI shifters, and we're looking forward to lots more fun on the bikes together.

BTW got home fixed tube, no success, second hole ... a classic snakebite methinks. Should be dry now, so I'll check again.

Just short off 10 off road miles today, nice blue sky when I set off but was a bit chilly with ss top and mitts on.

Leaves me almost 400 miles short of my now revised target of 3000 miles, been a struggle this year.

Once you get going, you'll fly past 3000

The advantage in living where we do is it is very sheltered from the wind, the disadvantage is that we often get a rude awakening 5 mins up the road. Today was no different although to be fair the wind wasn't that strong but because it has been a while since we did any longer fixed gear rides because of the racing season we felt it more than usual.
A bit later this evening dr_pink will be posting up a ride in the Informal Rides section for my birthday so have a look, today it was her birthday ride.
Here she is [again]

The Pearson still looking in good nick, 7 years old now and over 50,000 on the clock, original cranks and chainring, second set of wheels, not bad going I think.

These are the roads we will be riding later this month on the CC ride if it goes ahead.
It was good to do a relaxed ride for once, 50 miles mostly in sunshine. Hopefully see some of you later this month.

Cool but beautiful :sun: on the way in to work this morning. The views across to the Stretton Hills from Downton were really clear today. There are pylons and power lines in the way though, otherwise I'd have taken photos.

I took the long route in again and found fewer people out walking and cycling but there were some to say hello to. I almost took out a squirrel which changed its mind about which way to run. The brakes work and no skidding this time even though I was on a carpet of leaves so perhaps I can claim my cycling proficiency badge back.

Riding round the edge of the industrial estate I thought the place seemed a bit busier than normal. It made me very glad to have been on the bike rather than in the car as the new tenants across the way from us (private ambulance company) have taken up all the parking spaces today. My colleagues were not amused, but funnily enough my space in the warehouse was unaffected.;)

I was still feeling the effects of the ride at the weekend so tthe legs felt really tired and I thought the ride home seemed particularly slow, however my average for the round trip is about the same as normal (13mph) so it can't have been that bad. You can tell half-term is over as the queues are back - I'd estimate it was taking folk about 15-20 minutes to get to Heathgates Island. You can cycle halfway across town in that time.

Odd that as I had my quickest drive home since the roadworks were in place on the A5. No queues at all on Bage or Telford Way at 17:30

Bit late with this but a nice ride-out Saturday on the new two-group club run;went with the 'bit faster and longer group' and although the headwind was a bit tough while at the front was a good ride.

And we took over the cafe in St Ives;

I'm the handsome chap() between the guys in pink.

Looking at that route I think you did well to get 299m of climbing! In fact St Ives was the alternative destination for one of our groups this Sunday but no-one fancied the dash across the fens with all the wind.
