Well, I decided I wanted to go for a ride and so would have to take Arabella (the Dawes hybrid for those that don't know) as Priscilla (the MTB) is awaiting a new gear cable (or at least the one that's there, sorting out).
I was a bit worried after the last time riding the Dawes (awful back pain due to my arthritis) but I went, armed with some tools.

I got to Helix Park and decided my seat needed to go up a good inch or so. I stopped and sorted that and it felt much better.
The rest of the ride was uneventful except for a thought that occurred to me re my riding position.
I got home and decided to wash the bike, even though it was only dusty.

Then I got the tools out and.....adjusted the handlebars DOH!!!
Perfect riding position! So much more comfortable (I rode her round the garden lol).

There is only one thing left now, and that's a new seat.
I'm sorry Dawes but your 'comfort' seat is anything but, for my lovely bottom
I am a very happy camper and can't wait to get my wire basket and panniers!
A like, not just for the ride, but also for your modesty...

I had several possible routes plotted for today but they all involved me leaving at 9am. As it was, my enthusiasm didn't kick in until very late in the morning and only after I'd decided to head east to Langport and the Somerset Levels (well, Moors really) instead of the hills to the north, west and south. It wasn't quite afternoon by the time I left but once the clock ticked over to midday, I had thoughts of mad dogs and English women as it was hot hot hot: so much so that when I stopped to chat to a friend who has been sensible and got her ride in early and was heading home for a cool shower, either the tarmac or her tyre had started to melt beneath her wheel!

The ride out to Langport was uneventful though an emergency stop was required when I passed this farm entrance:

I stopped at The Potting Shed just outside Langport for a spot of lunch (they do a lycra special - any drink and a home-made cake for £3).

By the time I left, I was feeling a lot more energetic so took a rather meandering route home, getting some hills in after all, though not til I'd made my way out of the flat lands.

I stopped to chat to some Kune Kune pigs and a gorgeous black cat, none of whom wanted their photo taken, but this buzzard was happy to pose. The quality of the photo is awful but I didn't dare get any closer in case it flew off.

60 miles, 2800ft of climbing and 5 bottles of water.

I'm really pleased I made the effort to go out, especially as bumping into my friend led to an invitation to go to hers tomorrow to watch Le Tour. :wahhey:

Heading out with @Rickshaw Phil on my replacement British Heart Foudation 50 mile ride today. It's around South and East Shropshire and seems to have a fair bit of climbing involved!! In fact when google street viewing some of the junctions last night I saw a 20% climb at one point.......:surrender:. Should be fun though ^_^
Hope you all have a great day!

Great pictures coffeejo 8-)
Thank you!

Just had the first ride on the new MTB that replaces the one that got nicked a fortnight ago. It was just a quick blast round the local park to check all is in order after a full strip down and upgrading of a few bits and bobs to set it up how I like it, and I'm happy to report all is well

The squiggle on the LHS is a BMX track, of which I did a good few circuits ^_^

Garmin gen (for what it's worth) 4 miles / 250ft ascent @ 10½ mph.

Now for a proper ride.......

@nickyboy is your bike a Mach720? Nice looking bike what ever it is.
@CarlP yes it is. Got it in March and overall very happy with it. A minor build problem (spoke came loose resulting in wheel going out of true) but otherwise no problems in about 1200 miles of hard riding. Surprisingly comfortable for 7.5 hours in the saddle to Llandudno. And I like the Stealth Bomber styling

Very smart looking bike, and looks great VFM, I'm strangely drawn to it.

The Friday Tandem Ride was resumed today after a two week intermission.
Stone to Yarnfield to Cold Meece to Eccleshall. The least lumpy route possible to combat,as far as possible, the heat & the quickly manifest lack of fitness of my stoker due to two weeks of no cycling & no gym.
I was glad of the fitness edge I have maintained during the last two weeks;paricularly on anything going "up" at all on the outbound ride.

Eccleshall,Wheelwright Lane,Chebsey,Scammel Lane,Norton Bridge & B5026 to Stone.
We did a little experimenting with various gears & cadence on up-bits* on the return journey & it's quite clear that Carol prefers grinding big gears on hills whereas I prefer a lower gear/higher cadence style. We are going to have to work on that one.
Carol now has the clipping-in sorted wrt spd. However she sometimes puts a foot down when stopping & sometimes remains clipped in.I don't mind either but have encouraged her to choose her preference & use this as her habit.

The hot weather leads Carol to wanting some Shimano spd sandals. She was a little sceptical when I told her that they are not a hot-weather-only item & that you can ride in them all year round with the right socks/overshoes combo

We have discussed** & agreed a broad strategy to get us both upto doing 200km audax rides on the tandem. It will certainly take a while but it's an incentive to keep riding regularly.I reckon Peak Audax Perms will be ideal for us in many ways.

So today's ride was not only enjoyable as usual but resulted in identifying a goal & a strategy to achieve it.
Not too shabby at all.

* there's nothing on this route that could qualify as a hill

** whilst consuming coffee & cake at a café in Eccleshall.Carol has adapted to this carbo-loading technique very quickly with no apparent difficulty
