My ride today was just an out and back to the shops and bank, I tagged on another 5 miles just for the craic, I took the road bike today, I was only getting some milk and bread. I met a bloke who was wearing a Le Tour jersey, he’d been to see the Cambridge - London down at The Mall, he had a great time apparently but got wet and whilst talking to him I noticed that I had lost one of the nose pads from my glasses! Damn! Had quick look about for it but to no avail. I had to buy a set online from Oakley, a tenner! A feckin’ tenner for some rubbish they call unobtainium, they’ve seen me coming.

On the way back I kept riding into swarms of small flies, I was covered in them, pesty blumen things, then back in Hethe I met a woman who is a nurse at The Donor Clinic where I give platelets we had a nice chat, she has a one eyed dog, that is not at all well. Any way quite a nice ride on a grey day, no photos ‘cos I didn’t feel the muse today, I just rode me bike.

Stet off this morning just after 05:30 in brilliant sunshine, two miles later hit very heavy mist and had it for the next 32 miles! Luckily I had a rear light with me, so that got turned on, only hairy moment was when I nearly hit a cow as they were all over the road. After a couple of hours the sun burnt the mist off and the rest of the ride was in perfect weather conditions.

Route was a mishmash of my commuter routes, stopped at a mini Tesco around 75 miles for a sandwich and ate it in Watermead Park before following my current evening commuter route home

Aim of the ride was to hit 500 miles for the week and complete the July imperial century, in total 103.2 miles done on the ride and 515 miles done for the week.

500 miles in a week, fair play. I'd be happy with that in a month..

I've just been out on a 40 mile loop that was quick for me, averaging 20mph. Considering I went to circuit training last night I've almost impressed myself.
The ride was out to Graveley, down to Gamlingay and back through the Gransdens, so a ride of all the "G's" .

I had a lovely time, as it's the first time we've seen the sun since Monday in this corner of England, but there was one little problem- being humid, I was getting fairly sweaty, and there were millions of little flies all getting stuck to my face and glasses. I started itching within 2 miles of the start, even after a shower I'm still itchy.

And I had a ladybird in my mouth at one point, clearly she was going after the part digested flies!

I'm off to take a performance enhancing antihistimine.:sun:

Fixed wheel fanatic.
What a beautiful day. I had planned to set off early (6ish) but I couldn't drag my lazy carcass from my pit so I didn't leave til just before 9am.
Had a nice quiet ride south, venturing into Lancashire, around Arnside, Silverdale and Carnforth before heading north to Kirkby Lonsdale from there a few more miles north brought me to the delightful village of Barbon where I stopped for a lovely coffee and ham salad. I'd definitely reccomend The Churchmouse at Barbon if you are in the area. From there I continued north, just skirting Sedburgh and continued on passing under the M6 before doing a sharp left and going back down the hill. Through Greyrigg and turning left again to miss having to go through Kendal. I thought I might have to get off and walk at one point going over the big hill at Sizergh, but a bit of intestinal fortitude saw me get up and over ( I do like riding fixed, honest). The irony of that is that I got a PR on strava for the climb!
The last 10 miles went by quickly and I even staved of the urge to call in at the Derby Arms for a pint (great real ale pub).
I'm going to put my cycle kit on the line and clean my bike, one happy boy.^_^

Decided today to go visit this bridge I read about (Horkstow Bridge). It's at the end of a mixed track, not a great surface in parts (loose gravel) but doable on the road bike slowly:

Made 48 miles of it, started in Hull, over the Humber Bridge to Brigg, then up to and over this bridge and back over the Humber Bridge to Hull. Very hot and I had tired quite a bit by the time I reached this bridge even though it was only 35 miles into the route.

There is a small climb (90m) after the bridge as can be seen about 75% into the below profile:

Bearing in mind the heat, that I had just ridden 35 miles, and I was tired, I have to admit I walked up some of that as unlike many "hills" around here, that hit my breathing and my knees from the off! The earlier descent of another hill was a good test of my brakes and I passed a few cyclists walking up it, so I don't feel so bad!

Only managed a 14.5mph average over the ride, a drop from recent rides.

Lots of cyclists about everywhere.
Time trials at Etwall & Sudbury.None of them had dyno hubs, sandals ,a Carradice Camper Longflap & YACF shirt which made it easy to identify me as the winner.NOT

I needed to ride 28 miles to hit this week's goal and only today to do it in. Having 2 days off the bike due to horrible rain didn't help, neither did not having much energy this week and only doing short rides.

I set off in the evening at 8pm ish with a plan to meet Hubster 7.5 miles away at the hospital. I rode round the back of our houses and onto the Silfield Road, then turned off to Wattlefield and then left back towards Ashwellthorpe. It was here I saw a road signed to Fundenhall and thought "I've never been down there" so I rode down there. There are some lovely houses along that road, then through Fundenhall village which brought me out on the B1113. I went along there for a couple of hundred yards and then turned off towards Ashwellthorpe (again) and then turned to Wreningham, straight through the village and out the other side and turned for Hethel and Lotus and rode along the cyclepath and then headed to East Carleton then turned for Ketteringham and back to Wymondham. From there I rode down the Norwich Road, headed off up Tuttles Lane and picked up the Melton Road and followed it to the B1108. Over the double roundabout over the A47 and down to the hospital.
It was at the final hospital roundabout I realised that I was a couple of miles short so rode up the hill, right at the roundabout to the next roundabout then all the way around the roundabout and back the way that I'd come to the hospital where Hubster was waiting in the layby.

Meant to say, that as I rode around the back of the houses onto Park Lane, I saw a chap walking up ahead. As I overtook him, I said 'evening', as you do, and this Rottie cross came out of nowhere. I'd not seen a dog as dog was in bushes and the bloke was holding on to a long bit of rope with the dog on the end of it. It was muzzled and headbutted my thigh. I did keep upright, I'd not have wanted to scratch my bike. I was really happy that the dog was muzzled. Never seen bloke or dog before so don't think that he's local. Rotties are normally quite nice dogs, in my experience. Then the bloke swore at me for 'making him jump'. I was making enough noise, going along the road, as I was flanked by a bunch of young'uns yelling 'tour de France, tour de France' at the tops of their voices.

28.25 miles in 1:52:34 so a tad over 15mph average. Quite chuffed with that. My bum aches

As usual, I'm starting to post My Ride Today just before midnight, so it counts as Today's ride I reckon...

I wanted to get out on the road bike today (yesterday) but didn't really have enough time for a decent ride due to work getting in the way, so I decided to take the Hardtail around the bridleways and into Salcey Forest for a spin. I used a reverse route to my usual Salcey off road ride and

and the hill down towards the bottom of Cogenhoe Hill became quite a steep ride up beside the wheat field, then onto the bridge, with steps, up from Whiston Ford

It's all getting a bit overgrown at the moment with the perfect conditions for nettles and brambles.

DSC_2596.jpg

The back way towards Castle Ashby in still virtually impossible to ride due to the combination of rain and horses.. It's even worse in winter, and it's not all mud!!

Never mind, there's just room to wheel the bike round the side of it without sinking too deep.

DSC_2597.jpg

Once I was back into the open fields and tracks it got easier. the rape seed is nearly ready to harvest.
I grabbed a quick coffee at Salcey Forest Café and headed home via a byway to Piddington. I used to hold the KOM along this bit, (but in the opposite direction, but at the moment it's a challenge to even get past without losing skin to the undergrowth or nettled. I got a bramble across my right ankle and it bled quite a bit until I squirted some water out of my bottle over it.

I admire to optimism of getting anything that weights 17 tons as far as this

Anyway, back in time for lunch and a shower before work.. Booo

A fun 25 miles in the :sun:

Although I had some iffy looking weather in place before a front comes through, I went for a spin of the wheels this afternoon. I had gotten a saddle for the Cannondale this week, and was looking for a few miles to test it on. I used my training route between my home, I-39, and I-55 as a test course for the saddle, and the Map My Ride app on my smartphone. All went well, and I saw this crop duster spraying a field among the windmills. 15 miles, about an hour and 45 minutes. Stopping quite a bit to adjust seatpost height. Very warm, 87f and 75% hunidity.
