My ride today actually happened on Wednesday but I've not had the chance to post it until now! I've not even had a chance to pop out on the bike for a few day! Busy busy....

I aimed towards Sywell Aerodrome first. They have a few old air force bits outside the museum .

And as relics of scary times,, a few nuclear bits and pieces including:

Also a few WW2 relics

Including this air field defence bren-gun emplacement and an old bomb casing (in the background). The museum is worth a visit but it's only open at weekends and Bank Hols I think.

Anyways, I continued towards Wellingborough, and for some unknown reason, ended up in the town centre. It wasn't my plan, but, hey-ho, I've not ridden around there before..

I wonder why? This was advertised as the cycle route to the town centre..

Anyways, I found my way out of the estate and back on track for some better countryside and fresh air. I used the old A45 back towards Northampton and home.
A nice little 25 miles before work.

Had a bit of a dodgy calf but I couldn't resist a ride with some of my mates given it'll be impossible in a few weeks. I went out with the second fastest group and they were going a good pace but rather than strain the calf I dropped of to the third group. There's three groups btw, each setting off 5mins apart (slowest first) with the aim of catching the group infront. First time I'd did it (as I usually TT on a Thursday night) and I probably could have went a wee bit faster but decided on common sense (a rareity for me, then again a better common sense probably would have been to rest completely). There's 10miles + either side of it but this was the main ride http://connect.garmin.com/activity/529143587

its bloomin hot today. I decided to go for a bimble along the local lanes. I started my ride at the small vilage of Cemaes. From there I rode over the bridge over the river Dovey and turned right onto a very narrow lane. View attachment 48465

We have friends at Another place who used to live in Cemaes & still have an interest in the village.
I have cycled over the Dove on that bridge & up that lane.

I live in Branston if you know Burton so the ride was Walton, (edge of) Alrewas, Tamworth. M42/A444 Island then Linton, Rosliston Home.... cracking weather and 2 and half hours of pure peace and quiet.....

I too am in riding distance of Branston,BurtonAlrewas,Tamworth & Rosliston.

And I am amazed that Burton is close to Warwickshire.

I wonder if that's an illegally blocked public right of way. Note the route sign on the lamp post.
Quite a few of the estate alleyways have been railed off to stop the local scrotery using them to escape their misdemeanours.
Valid point about blocking a public right of way though!

Just by that sign is an Indian restaurant which used to be a pub called 'The Four Counties' as it almost borders the listed 4 counties..... I think my ride was 20 miles at that point..... but if you go directly via A444 its barely 15 miles to Warwickshire! (loads more to Warwick itself though)

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

My daughter lived there for a while as well. I live about 4 miles from there.

The forecast torrential rain never materialised: I wonder how many didn't go out today because they expected a soaking?!
It materialised here very successfully. My OH decided it wouldn't when he cycled to work this morning without his waterproof top (I don't know why, I really don't). I kindly put a towel by the front door for him, it was all I could think of. Not a stitch of dry clothing on him after a 45 minute commute - stopped raining the moment he got home . Still I had the same on Tuesday evening and I had my waterproof top on and he wasn't waiting at home for me with a towel !
