Ok I'm no Wiggo but did 35 miles with an average of 15.8mph which is comfortably my quickest ride of that sort of distance - I normally average under 14 - hooray!

I did an Audax today, from High Easter in Essex. This was part of the Eastern Counties Cycling Assoc. long weekend cycling festival, so it was almost all club riders. Now, I know Audaxes aren't races, but I do look to do them as fast as I can, and I finished this one (105km = 65 miles) in the leading group of 4 riders, miles and miles ahead of anyone else. What really impressed me, though, was that I averaged 18.4mph over that distance, which makes it the fastest long ride I've done. I am starting to impress myself, albeit no-one I know is remotely interested in stuff like that (so I have to tell the good folk of CC  ..............it's the only place anyone will do anything other than just shrug and change the subject).

It was a really nice ride, through quiet lanes, although some of the road surfaces were more like a river bed. Someone offered to buy my Roubaix off me in the middle of the ride, as his bike was bouncing him all over the place!

A nice cafe ride with friends, three day's in a row Ive visited the cafe. The only table big enough for us was indoors though.

[Shrug] let's talk about something else.

It's the danger of this sort of thread, I'm afraid. You and I were typing at the same time, and we had very different rides necessarily because of the different terrain and weather. I hope you don't see my post as some sort of one-upmanship.........it was just sheer co-incidence that we posted at the same time. Somebody will be along soon to tell us that they've done 100 miles in 5 hours, and I'll just congratulate them, and wonder quietly to myself how the hell they could do something like that.

Don't worry about it...........we are only competing with ourselves ultimately. You have just exceeded your best, and probably your expectations too. Same with me. We're both winners.

Don't worry I thought nothing of the sort... hence the smiley!

In fact I had many highlights today but the best bit was catching up with a couple of lads outside of Helsby. We all ended up in Frodsham at the lights and I got an inside path up to the front. I led us for a mile and a half which is something I'd never felt comfortable doing before, and when they peeled off they called out "cheers for the leg up" and I went, no worry, and it was all good stuff.

Just back from a quick whizz around a longer block today. I let the Garmin pick a route of 10 miles and it found one of 11.6. Seems that Garmins can't count.
Its a route I have ridded quite a few times but not normally that way around. I swear that its harder work anti clockwise  The Garmin hates me and I've only had it 24 hours
We deliberately took it gently as we did 27+ yesterday, which was our longest ride this year so far, but wanted to break 10 miles again today as Hubster has a goal of 50 miles this week and he needs to fit it in around dialysis sessions, work and sleeping.
For the first half I really slogged. I stopped twice to free the back brake and then got the hang of braking really gently using the front one only. The second half of the ride was great. For the last 3/4 mile we ignored the Garmin and took the back road home as its prettier, has less traffic on it and we just like it better.

All in all, 11.6 miles in 54:45 so averaged 12.7mph which is about right for us.:bicycle:
