During a recent thread on CC two Phd's (Doctors) popped up, this got me thinking are cyclist more academic than other road users

What is your highest level qualification either academic or vocational, or are you a graduate from the Faculty of Hard Knocks, University of Life.

I fully appreciate that qualifications do not always equal intelligence and often owe more to luck and oppertunity.

I was fortunate enough to have my employer(s) pay for, and allow me to attend college on a part-time basis, firstly for a City and Guilds in Concrete Technology and Practical Aplications, then a HNC in Civil Engineering and finally an MBA. Don't always feel particularly bright through and often think it was more a case of endurance than any higher academic leaning!

I've got 3 certifications in IT security, I suppose you'd class them as vocational certs?

Too busy earning a living to go to university when I was a lad

If that is the standard of English that you are being taught, then I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to receive your results ! ;)

A degree and numerous work related qualifications.

OT: I was wondering how to set up a university. Can anyone do it? If so I want to set up an actual 'University of Life'!

I remember the episode of Blackadder goes Forth when Blackadder said:

'My education was in the University of Life, the School of Hard Knocks and the Kindergarten of getting the sh!t kicked out of me.'

Classic.

As I'm sure most are aware, I've got a PhD. No big deal really. In my line of work you are expected to have one. Absolutely hated doing it, but that was mostly my fault. I was doing it part time (as part of my job) and I left all the writing up until the end. The last 6 months were sheer hell! ;)

Apart from at work, there are no real benefits. I always make a point of telling insurance companies etc that I have a PhD, but they never lower my premiums. Maybe they've seen my videos.....
