Puzzle game procrastinator!
Something like:
  • 0-4 Riding a tricycle which I probably loved, but it's over half a century ago (!) so I can't remember much about it and the people who could are no longer alive.
  • 9-11 I had a Raleigh singlespeed which I rode and rode until it fell to bits.
  • 11-13 A 5-speed Raleigh took over and I started venturing further afield on that, including my school 'commute'.
  • 13-33 My bike was stolen from the school bike sheds and that was me done with cycling for 20 years.
  • 33 Thank you, Greg Lemond! Watching your superb '8 second' Tour de France victory over Fignon inspired me to buy a road bike.
  • 33-56 Riding miscellaneous road bikes and mountain bikes up here in Yorkshire/Lancashire and on various holidays in the UK and abroad. Fitness levels veering wildly between superb and poor.
  • 56-57 Neglecting my cycling almost killed me! I developed a large DVT which spread to my chest and caused a pulmonary embolism which has kept me off bikes for the longest time in 23 years. Still fighting to get well enough to ride again!
  • 57-85+ (Hopefully!) Another couple of decades or more on the bike, attaining higher levels of fitness than ever before, and cycling in the high mountains at last.

I didn't get a bike till I was 12, we were too poor.

12-15 - Elswick Hopper something or other racing bike. I'd tell my parents I was "going out" and then do 50/60 mile day trips into the Dales, they had no idea. I had a big world. I rode that bike into the ground then found football & girls.

Finished with footie (but not with girls) at 40, with arthritis, it was suggested that cycling might "free" up my hips.

42 -43. Muddy Fox MTB. Was a 17" frame, I am 6'1", I knew n.o.t.h.i.n.g and had no idea that adult bikes came in different sizes. I didn't enjoy it.
44- 45. Dawes Galaxy. This bigger bike was useless in the woods. I had no idea why so many people wanted to buy a steel bike with a manky saddle.(Brooks B17)
45 - 46. Joined cycling forum and pennies started dropping. Dawes Discovery 201, then a 301, then a 401. Toured in dales.
46 - 47. Dawes Discovery 501 arrives, it is l.o.v.e. Toured France, Asturias and the Dales. Dahon D7 arrives for Dutch holiday. Officially addicted
47 - 48. Dawes MTB joined the hybrid, along came a Dawes Horizon for touring, this time Andalucia and the Dales.
48 - 49. Ridgeback Horizon replaced the Dawes Horizon, a Trek FX arrived and a disaster as my 501 was stolen on a Catalonia tour. Old GT Outpost arrives for "shopping".
49 - 50. Things are hotting up. Ridgeback goes. Dahon goes, Trek FX goes, Specialized Sirrus comes in and ridden Bilbao to Malaga. Think drops might be a good idea, in comes Triban 3. Disco 501 located in Barcelona and repatriated on my 3rd bleedin trip. Sirrus goes.

I have a lot of plans..............

Here's my cycling past, present and guess at the future:

<15yrs old
mountain bikes by raleigh and muddy fox, playing on the old pit stacks and in the woods or just riding down stairs on the local (non council) housing estate

16 - 22yrs old
Mountain bikes, mountain bikes, mountain bikes, jump bike and XC bike, XC bike becomes singlespeed

22-25yrs old
Steel mountain bike (still single speed) jump bike sold to fund re-build of dad's 60's road racer, bikes used for transport and enjoyment - manage to get fiancee into mountain biking

25-30yrs old
Bike still for transport but also have access to a car, using bike less and less as no longer practical to cycle to work, bought motorbike.

30-35yrs old (now)
Still steel frames for both mountain and road, move to very hilly area, struggling on 5 speed road bike. Probably going to struggle even more by adding child seats.

35 - 45yrs old
Still steel frames for both mountain and road, spending time fixing kids bikes

45 - 55yrs old
Still steel frames for both mountain and road,

55 - 100yrs old
jet pack.
