Digging the garden this afternoon and a Fox sauntered up. Got about 5 yards off. It knew I was there and where Mrs 26 was too. Cats were interested enough to wander even closer than I could get. Fox had a wee sniff at one and probably decide claws and teeth wouldn't be worth the snack. Fox came back three times last time I checked. Very interested in the dug patches, presumably for some easy picking worms. I've been close to foxes (~100 yards) before but this one was perfectly happy up to about 5 yards. A close and special encounter for sure.

Primroses in flower on our walk on the Hills this afternoon

I've read the reports of others on this forum of barn owls flying alongside them seemingly following the pool their lights are making in the road and this evening I experienced for myself, a barn owl accompanying me for several hundred metres on my commute home through West Lothian. Marvellous !

Leaving work tonight there was a couple of Roe does running through the business park, as the starlings were gathering for yet another massive murmuration.

Not bad for being 3miles from the city centre

Well, write it down boy ......
Watching the comings and goings on my feeders today, loads of tits, robins, a nuthatch, a thrush, blackbirds, and then this fella turned up, I presume it's an albino blackbird, it certainly seemed friendly with the other blackbirds. Am I right?

You're right. Partial albinism is rare in birds but is most often seen in blackbirds

Plenty of buzzards about today but the star was a Red Kite. Not often seen around these parts so an unexpected wonderful surprise.

Then when I got home from my ride Mrs 26 pointed out the Fox back in our garden. It decided to mark some territory and did so on Mrs 26's gardening gloves

Marsh Harrier.
Flew low from a field and across the road in front of me, between Chatteris and Peterborough.
Not 100%, but definately not a Red Kite, definately not a buzzard, he/she was dark brown and slender..but big if that makes sense. Really quite long wings.
We used to watch them hunting near Eldernell where theres a SSSI on the Nene washes. Lazy wingbeat, just meandering across fields, low and looking for food. Some years ago you could see half a dozen out there.
Todays spot is only a few miles away from there as the crow flys.

The BTO would love to hear about your blackbird - Abnormal plumage survey
He's gorgeous!
Done! Saw him again a couple of days ago.

Two days ago a sparrowhawk flashed past me in my back garden, I only glimpsed it from the back, so wasn't awfully sure, but it passed within four feet of me.
Today I was out working in the garden and it (I presume it was the same one) landed on the fence about eight feet from me. We eyed each other up for about five seconds, then it flew off. Amazing. No doubt about it this time.
