After a picnic with the wife on Cockfield Fell last week and walking back via a different route to the main path I discovered a secluded little valley, not actually far off the railway path but not somewhere anyone would go regularly. The place was heaving with bunnies and one particular area under a mass of gorse bushes was full of holes, but it looked more like a badger set or fox den. Thinking about it the next day it wasn't far off one of my usual bike routes and as I haven't been using my wildlife camera for much lately I decided to do a Johnny Kingdom.
I stuck the camera in my back pocket and as I passed by on my ride, secreted it well hidden under a gorse bush opposite the holes to see what I could catch. No badgers but I did catch this lot over a few days & nights:
Not an ABC but just a domestic small cat.

@Windle can I ask about your camera please?

A friends dad showed me footage of an otter in his garden that he took on a wildlife camera and it got me thinking….. but I don’t know much about them.

It's just a cheap trail camera, I think from Amazon a few years ago and cost about £50. It does apparently take pictures up to 24 megapixels though, which is what I had it set on for those photos. It also takes video. I'm not even sure what brand it is, possibly Nexcam?
It has infrared lighting for night time pictures and side motion sensors, the levels of sensitivity and range of pickup can be varied too.
All in all, remarkable what you can get these days for the price of them.
I don't know how to post a link but this is a screen shot of something similar.

@Windle after I posted I did google “best trail cameras “ and did see things like this on Amazon. It’s bonkers what you can get for the money.

I have a birthday in July, I’m normally stuck for things when I’m asked what I might like….

They're definitely worth having if you like wildlife, even if it's just set up in the garden it's interesting to see what's lurking about through the night. I know what all of the local cats look like even though they're rarely spotted through the day .
They're superb for birdwatching too, just set it up pointing at your bird feeders and see what's been visiting.
I occasional point mine into the field out the back of us and have captured all sorts, foxes, rabbits, hedgehogs and escaped Raby Castle deer sometimes.
