We have been finding one of our birdfeeders containing fatballs in the middle of the lawn a lot recently. We had been blaming the local squirrel but caught the culptrit on camera a few days ago.

Basically the crow has learned how to unhook the feeder (its on a scroll shaped hook so needs to be lifted up and over) and drop it on the floor to get the fat balls out.

Intelligent bird - not the best video

The early badger catches the worm? Not here, it doesn't. Cub gets wind of what's happening, dives in to try and steal the prize, with the result that the worm escapes. Now I know what noise an exasperated badger makes!

And I’m convinced that this is a snowy owl…..

Latest view from the blue tit nest. It’s become a bit of a mosh pit now. I can only be sure of counting eight of the original nine. They are all fully feathered and some are starting to flutter about and stretch their wings inside the nest box. I reckon it will be a week to ten days before they take their chances in the big wide world.
