This bumbly was busy whilst I took its picture and then just a bit further along the path a thrush was getting it's evening meal but wouldn't let me get close.

that looks very similar to the red breasted gross beak(s) we get seasonally. except for the beak

Last week I got to help out with a project that's trying to reintroduce wild native oysters to the seas around the North East.

We had to take them out of their nurseries, remove any dead ones and check what species have started living amongst them.

I don't often get a chance to snap a jay as they appear in our garden infrequently and fly off at the least movement. This picture was taken today through the glass of our kitchen window. The feeder mesh has been enlarged by a squirrel.

Nice to have these in one's garden but the nest box needs a metal plate screwed round the entrance, otherwise Woody will enlarge the hole to get its head in and hoik any chicks out to eat them. Google nest box plate - they are very cheap.

Thanks for that. I have had no success with nest boxes, we have three, so far, no takers. We have many blue-tits using the feeders, and "inspecting" the boxes, but, no-one moves in! Rather annoyed yesterday to discover next-door neighbour has blue-tits in their nest box, so, it would appear they are eating at "ours" and "living" next door!
