On my way back from visiting Beeston for Zabou's street art, there were two pairs of Mandarin on the canal. This is one pair. (Slightly out of focus - sorry!)

Currently sort of half hiding at work hoping to spot and film a fox I saw the other day. Poor thing was walking with a limp and seemed hunch backed, so have been in touch with a fox rescue place.
Fingers crossed it can be made better and then released where it was captured.

No sign of him/her yet, but it needs to hurry up as the crows and magpies are enjoying it’s breakfast of dog food that I’ve left for it.

A squirrel. Nothing remarkable but my just over 2 year old granddaughter obviously thought it was brilliant, she toddled after it all over the field, then laughed like a gutter when it jumped up Into a nearby tree.

....... laughed like a gutter........

I've lots of experience of gutters. Lots. There's nothing about them that helps me with this.......

We were in Asturias in northern Spain a week or so ago, and saw red squirrels on one of our walks. I didn't expect that.

I suspect I'm mixing my metaphors...i probably meant laughed like a drain.

Well, write it down boy ......
Heard a thump on the window yesterday and looked out and saw a goldfinch spark out. Went outside and it was still breathing so I wrapped a tea towel around it, placed it on my woodpile and covered with a bin lid to keep the worst of the wind off it.

Kept my fingers crossed (and cat in) and checked it after two hours or so and it was still there blinking away.

Four hours later - RESULT!!!!

I can't describe how pleased this made me feel.

(Not my picture) Pretty certain I spotted two Common Redshanks at work today. Fantastic looking birds, really pleased to see them. In other news, having left a trap to try and catch an injured fox (so he/she can be taken to a sanctuary to be checked over) there's been no sign of him/her again  image641.jpg

A couple of raptor lazily flying around RAF Alconbury, being mobbed by crows.
Not red kite, I didn't think they were buzzards, they looked a bit lean, larger wingspan, and knowing there are a good few marsh harriers not so many mikes away as the crow flies...i did wonder if they were harriers but not near enough to get a good look at any detail.
Buzzards more likely but their general build kinda said maybe not.
