What's the derivation of the name? Was the mode of travel prior to the bicycle on puddy cat back?

I don't know, usually if a road has an unusual name theres usually history attached to it.

The name has only recently been adopted by the looks of it - Puddy Back Lane.

I've ridden & walked up and down Puddy Back Lane many a time but only noticed the name plates for the first time yesterday, hence the photos.

Yes, it was dammed & flooded in 1956. No idea about any references but it's close to the reservoir.

The only reference I could find was to Holcot bridge.

"Holcot bridge was drowned when it filled and was replaced by a causeway a quarter mile further south."

At the top is the old flooded Road, still visible as it disappears into the water, and SW of the Res is Puddy Back Lane, arrowed..
