Somerset has quite a few of this kind of thing - white post, red ball, white ball etc. I wonder if they date back to times of limited literacy.

A challenge, which will get harder if and when the thread progresses.

No gates, churches, railings, water, bridges (or from any other themed threads - I'll admit I'm a prime culprit, and enjoy looking for such regular back-drops).

Looking for novelties here. The sillier and more unusual the better. No repetition or hesitation allowed. Deviation is definitely de rigueur.

If I had a 'My bike in front of a polar bear' photo, I'd kick off with that. But I haven't.

The red posts might have been something to do with turnpikes. That one is on the old Honiton-Chard coach road.
There's another on the Holsworthy-Bude road, just over the Tamar, at Red Post Cross.
I've come across one or two others, if I could remember where they are.

A drum up hut ,in the hills above EK. Dont you just love the Scottish outdoors and the right to roam . Add in the rights of the people who built huts after WW2.

A Lister 3 cylinder diesel and saw. Last used in the '80s I believe. Engine still turns over and has compression. I wish they'd restore it so it can make a lot of noise and smoke in the best Lister tradition!
