According to the information board the monastery was destroyed and rebuilt several times and eventually secularised in 1806 when the region stopped being part of Austria and became part of Baden. After this in 1813-1815 it was used as a hospital for soldiers with Plague, Dysentery, and Typhus; there's a mass grave containing 1500 soldiers, apparently very near the memorial I photographed for soldiers from Baden Napoleon conscripted and sent to Moscow.
The Monastery was demolished from 1829, (apparently the church is now the "Ludwigskirche" in Freiburg so I'll try and find that some time) and in 1836 the remaining residents were forced to relocate to local villages and the rest was finally destroyed, apart from this chapel and the former canteen which is now a guest house a few hundred metres away.
