Naming 'the' best is impossible... but an example of what I consider a perfect pop song
Sugababes... push the button. The rhythm is infectious.
Catchy as flip. Good choice!

This is the sort of definition I had in my head when I read the topicI'm defining it as... not my favourite song nor my favourite artist but a big catchy chart hit that may be really crap compared to stuff i really like, but i like it anyway.
It could also be... not rock, not soul, not funk, not jazz or grunge or whatever, but POP... the likes of Pete Waterman might have produced.
I'll have to have a think.

OMG, that took me back. And You Smiled.
I'm only 42 but I bloody love Matt Monro's voice. It's not among my personal favourites of his, but it is an earworm and a half!
A pop song's supposed be about Fun, isnt it???

'Pop music' to me means not rock, not soul, not glam rock, not Indie, not punk, not everything else, just something that appeared on TOTP's, which the artist(s) mimed to and they rarely had another 'hit'. Which makes me think that this could be my favourite pop music tune of all time.
Or maybe it could be this one? 🤔
absolutely!
Everyone disagrees with me but i do argue that back in the early 80's when heavy metal bands were regularly troubling the top 40, heavy metal was pop music. Trad sounding rock'n'roll bands were also in the charts, that was also pop. We can call it what we want after the event but at the time...
