one of the 'chaps' in my club always opts for a couple of pints in lieu of tea/coffee, if we stop at a pub on the club run, he claims he is replenishing his carbs, I think he just likes to drink beer!

I love drinking beer while cycling. preferably in my drink bottle while riding.

Hence my current project of building a 12-person beerbike/barbike.
A beerbike/barbike is a bike build on top of a carframe with a bar and 12 people sitting around it while pedaling! Check here for some photos

Anyone else crazy about drinking beer while riding?

I'm no Road Traffic Law expert, but I'd hazard a guess that if you tried to take a contraption like this onto a British Highway, you would be breaking at least one section of one of the the various Road Traffic Acts. Not to mention Licensing laws/local bye laws and the good old Police Town and country clauses Act.

Hmm. Licensing - only if you sell the beer. Ok to give it away? (unless it was an area with a 'no drinking in public spaces' rule).

I'm sure the thing can be made road legal - just a question of sufficient reflectors and brakes. You might, I suppose, be had for obstructing traffic, but you could argue that it IS traffic...

There was a chap fined the other week for the good old offence of being drunk in charge of a horse!

Anyway, good luck krueemel!

Yes I was thinking more about local byelaws relating to consuming alcohol in certain areas like parks, but is also an offence to have with you in a public place, away from licensed premises an open vessel containing alcohol, Vagrancy Act 18..?

The vehicle issue would be down to 'Type approval', and as it probably cannot be 'typed' i.e. as a normal car or other mechanically propelled vehicle
can be 'typed', therefore it would never get approval.

The idea is fun though.

What you need is a pie carrier and porky scratchings holder on your bars.

I took delivery of a pair of panniers today, or perhaps it would be more correct to call them pie-iers as they will no doubt be used for carrying a few samples of my favourite food.

How does it differ, technically from a bicycle or tricycle (or tandem or rickshaw, perhaps.)?

Anyway, as Uncle Mort said, it's probably not an issue, since GB is not en route between China and the Netherlands...
